  1. Thanks Wino, wont have a chance to look today, but will try and look tomorrow and report back. Cheers Andy
  2. Thanks all for the replies. Fordfan, thanks for the part number :-) do you mind if I ask where you got the information about the lack of ABS ? Iam convinced I dont have ABS, but it seems many people (like TMB above) keep telling me that they all had ABS. Oli, I spoke to TPS, and that slightly muddied the waters as they guy was talking about the sensor behind the airbag, which I am pretty sure is wrong, for these Fabias the concensus seems to be that the sensor is on the rack. Cheers Andy
  3. Thanks for the reply TMB This seems to be part of the problem, some people are saying that all Fabias had ABS, but mine certainly doesnt, and in the past I have seen a few posts of Fabia SDI owners not having ABS. Does anyone know of any way of checking for sure what sensor I need ? (other than jacking it up and taking old one off). Cheers Andy :-)
  4. Hi All Am hopeing one of you can give me a straight answer, as at the moment I am getting conflicting advise from different people/garages. I have a 2002 Fabia Comfort Estate with the 1.9 SDI Engine. As far as I know it doesnt have ABS or Traction contol (I can lock the brakes under heavy breaking, and the wheels will spin if on gravel/snow etc). So the question is do you know if this model has a Steering Angle Sensor or a Steering Torque Sensor ? I am getting the Power Steering light on the dash and am trying to cure the fault, and had my codes read last saturday, but from talking to a some people today, they say the codes must be wrong, as my car doesnt have a Steering Angle Sensor as it doesnt have ABS / Traction control, and that instead it had a Steering Torque Sensor. But then other people are saying that it does have the Steering angle sensor !! So, does anyone know what I have, or a way to find out for definite ? Cheers Andy PS, I have read the long thread on the power steering, but it doesnt really help in this situation, but does anyone have a copy of the guide that its linked to the VRS site that is no longer online ?
  5. HI, I just wanted to say thankyou to Freelanderman for doing me a scan. Thanks Andy :-)
  6. Hi Trundlenut, To be honest back in October when I last needed some help. I had tried to contact a few people local on the list and never heard back. Saw that people had been posting topics asking for help in thier area, so thought I would give it a go. Sorry if thats not the correct way, am quite a newbie when it comes to forums. Thanks Andy :-)
  7. Hi Tony Thanks for you offer, am very interested. I have replied to your PM message, have tried ringing you a few times, says number not known. Could you PM me again or email me on [email protected] Cheers Andy
  8. Hi I have an 2002 Fabia SDI which has the power steering light on. Before I start going the garage route, wonder if anyone local to either Ormskirk or South Manchester had a VCDS so I could check and possibly clear some codes and see if the light goes out before its MOT in Aug. (or what it needs to get it fixed) Need to decide if its worth paying to keep the car or just scrap it (which would be a shame as it runs great, and apart from the Power Sterring light has nothing else wrong with it). Am happy to fit in with your timescale and happy to pay some beer tokens. Either reply on here, or if you prefer email at [email protected] Hope someone can help Cheers Andy :-)
  9. Well I am not the OP, but am glad you all answered as I was just about to post a new topic asking the same question. I got a 2002 Fabia SDI that is having the dreaded Power Steering Light, started intermittent, now permenant. Car has had new battery by me in October (When I got the car) and previous owner had put in new Alternator last summer when light first came on. So am looking for a garage I can trust to quote me to fix. The steering still seems powered, but the light is on all the time now. Car is only worth £500 so dont want to spend a fortune on it so looking for a garage that knows its stuff and will have dealt with the power steering side of things before. Will give those mentioned above a shout, but if any of you know any good power steering people in the North West then give me a shout, or if any members got good diagnostic skills am more than happy to pay for thier time to have a look and tell me its economic to repair. Cheers All Andy :-)
  10. Hi Does anyone have a code reader in South Manchester. I have a 2002 Fabia SDI Estate, that seems to be starting to have the dreaded power steering problems. It recently had a new battery and alternator, and it seems that next on the list of things to check is the codes. If anyone has one and can spare a couple of hours, happy to supply beer tokens and cover travel costs. Cheers Andy
  11. Hutchy am willing to swap to help you out, I really really wanted an Elegance TDI (especially with the heated seats) but couldnt raise the cash :-)
  12. I have an 2002 SDI Estate Comfort, if your after cheap motoring its hard to beat. But it is no way sporting. I would say that it is perfectly liveable with so long as you accept thats its not a Turbo. Happily keep up with traffic, no probs on motorway upto about 80. It will depend on what you want as to wether it suits you. I was on a very low budget, wanted long term reliability with no worries about Turbos blowing, no ABS lights flckering etc etc. I get a true 60-65 mpg around town, and close to 70 mpg on motorway (about 65mph ish). It is basic motoring, but seems that not much goes wrong with them (touch wood). I got mine for £750 with 12 month tax/test, Cambelt and new Clutch had been done in last 12 months and came from a family who had owned it from near new. Looking back through all the Service History (He had kept everything, even receipt for bulb changes) apart from tyres and brakes the only major expense in 11 years and 120K miles had been Cambelts every 4 years, a clutch done last year, and an alternator done last year (which it turned out was wasted as it was the battery all along). Its a bit scruffy and has leaky door cards but drives fine and took me from Brighton to Manchester quite happily via Friends in London for the grand total of £30 of Deisel. Downsides, it is pretty noisy, if looking at Classic then its wind up windows all round. Its a pretty sparten interior, but nothing to stop you improving that over time. Not sure were you are, but if your near Manchester you welcome to come and have a look at mine and see what you think. TDI is nice, but if you not got the budget, there is nothing wrong with the SDI. I say give it a go Andy :-)
  13. Have a look at your switch, if it looks like this Then its supposed to work that way. :-)
  14. Yep My 2002 SDI Estate has mirrors that are like that. Never understood the reasoning for it. Would be interested to see if its possible to just fit the more modern switch to have both mirrors independent.
