  1. Thanks guys. I think it is either the HDS & JNC gearbox code, so question answered!
  2. Does anyone have the speed in each gear at 2000rpm for a Fabia vRS 2006 to hand? Thanks.
  3. I did change dealer after the 20k service as the original one closed, so their version of the 30k and 50k service could well have been different. I just booked them in as 30k and 50k services and left the rest up to them. The brake fluid change was included with the 20k and 40k services. I suppose I took a bit of a chance with the cambelt and let it go slighlty past the four year limit.
  4. Hi, I have updated the thread with the latest service and MOT cost. I also forgot to add the VAT to the 40,000 service so I have also amended that. I have also had the Cam Belt changed and all 4 doors sealed and the trackings sorted (all at the same time). I had the parts for the turbo and intercooler as goodwill as the car had a full Skoda service history, had only covered 27,000 ish miles and was around 6 months out of warrenty. To be fair the dealer was extremely helpful with this. I didn't even ask for the goodwill, they just offered it straight away.
  5. I'm not sure how you would check, but mine did a similar thing and it was the wire. It's fairly common.
  6. +1 Same thing happened to me. Sounds like the turbo has blown unfortunately.
  7. As above, labour was £207 from my dealer. Not sure of the cost of the parts though but I'm sure they mentioned something in the region of £1500 for the total cost of repair.
  8. Sounds like the turbo to me too. I had the same happen. As mentioned, if you have full Skoda service history they should pay for parts, you pay labour. This was my bill .... "Traced fault to collapsed turbo charger. Replaced turbo charger & intercooler. Cleaned air intake pipes. 100% parts goodwill contribution from Skoda (Mileage 27,815) - £207.00"
  9. Had exactly the same thing and got it repaired at the dealers. I didn't know what the problem was at the time, so this is what they did .... "Checked battery, starter motor, located cause as problem with live wire to starter" - £90. As you already know the problem it should cost less than that, as a lot of my cost was the investigation.
  10. Sorry, I couldn't tell you if the oil sprayed on mine. I have no technical knowledge so i'm just going on the "cutting out whilst driving and not starting" thing. Hopefully it's something less serious, or that you still have the cover. If the turbo has gone again within a year is it not covered?
  11. Could be a blown turbo again. Mine cut out a while back and wouldn't start again which was diagnosed as a blown turbo.
  12. I had something similar with my Fabia vRS and it was a dodgy earth wire to the starter motor. I know a couple of other people who have had the same.
  13. I would definitely try the 'good will' route. I didn't even have to ask my dealer, they offered. I think it's unreasonable for the turbo to go that early and you definitely have a case. The latest service may be a stumbling block as I wasn't in that situation, but if Skoda have serviced it up to 1k miles ago then i would push it if you have to. Hopefully it wont be the turbo, or Skoda will be as reasonable as they were with me.
  14. Mine went at 27k. Does your car have a full Skoda Service history? If so, then they will probably pay for the parts and you pay for the labour. That's what happened with me and the overall cost was £200 (which included a new intercooler).
  15. I recently had my anti-roll bar linkages replaced by the dealers at 31,515 at a cost of £77.66+VAT. I think its pretty common.
  16. Mine stopped too. I just used the spare until my car was due in the dealers and left it with them. They charged me £1.50 for a new battery. Lazy i know. :p
  17. My cable must have just been loose as it would start eventually. Sometimes it would take 2 or 3 times to start. It would often cough a bit and then stall on startup. Also, when it did start, it would make a kind of grinding sound just before it would fire up (thats when i first realised something was up). I think you would know if you have the problem. Even early on I could tell there was something not right about it and it just got worse over a week or so. I didnt have any problems once it was going though, ran as normal.
  18. Fabia vRS 06 Services (All Main Dealer) 10k Service (Mileage 7,196) - £183.18 20K Service (Mileage 16,124) - £292.67 30K Service & MOT (Mileage 24,079) - £172.72 40K Service & MOT (Mileage 31,118) - £351.50 50k Service & MOT ((Mileage 36,366) - £159.80 Additional Repairs (All Main Dealer) Problem - Air con hissing/not cold Air con service/replaced expansion valve (Mileage 25,982) - £168.37 Problem - Car cut out when driving/wouldn't start Traced fault to collapsed turbo charger. Replaced turbo charger & intercooler. Cleaned air intake pipes. 100% parts goodwill contribution from Skoda (Mileage 27,815) - £207.00 Problem - Car wouldn't start & creaking suspension Checked battery, starter motor, located cause as problem with live wire to starter (Mileage 31,515) - £90 Replaced anti-roll bar linkages (Mileage 31,515) - £77.66 TOTAL + VAT = £197 Problem - Cam Belt Change, Leaky Doors Sealed and Tracking (Mileage 35,387) Cam Belt - £265 4 Doors Sealed - £118 Tracking - £30 TOTAL + VAT = £500
  19. Just had mine back from the dealer's today for a similar sounding problem. They checked the battery, all ok. Carried out bench test on the starter motor, all ok. Located fault on live wire to starter. Cost £90 + VAT.
  20. I have owned both for 4 years each. It really depends what you want from a car, and everyone is different, but in my opinion the vRS is a far better "car" than the 172. We all know its not as quick, but as mentioned before, it "feels" quicker. To me, it feels a lot quicker. I remember worrying quite a lot when i owned the 172 as there constantly things going wrong with it. I'm not saying the vRS has been ultra reliable, but it feels like its screwed together better. Also, I have been treated well by Skoda dealerships when things have gone wrong, whereas Renault were ... ummm ... not very good at all. After 4 years I still love my vRS, whereas with the 172, if i'm honest i couldn't wait to get rid of it. I never once regretted trading it in for a vRS. Having said all that, there will be people who have owned both cars and have the opposite opinion to mine. I would suggest you test drive one and see what you think about the effortless in gear acceleration, as this for me is the main reason i loved the car from day one and still do now. It's also the main reason i think that the vRS is more fun than the 172. However, if you absolutely love your 172, maybe you dont think the same way i do - a test drive is the only way to find out.
  21. I have done it when moving a guitar amp from one boot to another. My spare key was at my parents house who were away on holiday for 2 weeks. The key to my parents house was in the boot with the car keys. In the end I had to get a lift from work to my brothers house as he had keys to my parents house. Haven't done it since though
  22. I have just ordered 2 Pirelli P Zero Nero 205/45 R16 W from blackcircles for £148.80 fitted. Had Toyo Proxes T1 last time which lasted about 10k, but couldn't find them as cheap this time around so went for the Pirellis for a change. Personally I put cheaper tyres on the back, but i'm not sure that's the right thing to do.
  23. Same happened to me ... see the link here. As you can see they had to change the intercooler. You may be able to get some goodwill from the dealer if its low mileage and has been serviced by a main dealer? I'm not sure on the exact prices but i think the dealer said that the full cost would have been around the £1.5k mark. Good luck with it.
