  1. That's weird, i didn't know you could close the windows with the locks... Does it work on the remote as well? My car has the bad habit of locking itself up about 5 seconds after i unlock it. On the other day it caught me out and i had to call the AA at the BP garage... Imagine my face when i'm filling up and heard the sound of the locks arming... with the key AND my wallet inside... lol
  2. I have a digital tdi-tuning box in my car i picked up some time ago and the difference is huge. You don't get that big kick just before 2k rpm anymore, the torque delivery is very smooth right from the bottom, it almost feels like a common rail car but with a slightly better surge from about 2k. At the same time it doesn't cough along if you do drop to 20mph in 4th behind that new driver and when you put your foot down it revs cleanly right up to just over 4k when it runs out of lungs. In terms of economy it didn't make any difference tbh and i can still touch 500 miles out of a tank... Is it worth it? Well, my car is a 51 plate pd100. It's an "under a grand" car that delivers very reasonable performance whilst giving me over 50mpg. I paid little money for that little box and i have put it next to a friend's Focus 2.0 Zetec and left him behind. Done the same to a stock 307 HDI110 and a Golf TDI 110 with a box. I have matched a stock VRS up to about 80, only after that he edged away slightly. Between gears it can keep up with pretty much anything those repmobiles use, even newer, more powerful cars. I wouldn't spend 300 quid on a map unless i was thinking of spending £2k on modding it........ and at the moment, that's way down on my list of priorities.
  3. You know what, i admit that i drive my car very agressively most of the times but one thing i won't do: using the phone. I have a holder and i might touch the speach-to-text button once to reply to a text but that's it. For calls i use the hfk.
  4. No mate, faaar from it! A 170bhp A4 isn't scary at all, between gears a slightly modded vrs will be quicker, i have no doubt about that, however there are a few pretty good ones out there that are really fast. With just a little tuning box (which pretty nearly matches a stock vrs) i can easily out-accelerate an 118d and between gears a 170 A4 won't leave me behind, but i have been left with a confused ego by a mean A4 that clearly had quite a few mods in it, he got behind me when i was already doing about 100, i put the hammer down and hit the 125 limit. When i pulled over he went past me like if i was doing 70...
  5. Hang on a minute.... I'm suggesting? I didn't suggest anything mate but i will now: go back to school and learn how to read all over again.
  6. hey, me too! And i don't even drive a vrs! Like this? min 1.22 onwards
  7. This app won't let you know if that A4 tdi behind you is running those claimed 170bhp or if the guy likes a few mods and is running 240bhp in which case the embarassment will be worse... because in less than no time he'll be a little spec far, far away from you...
  8. When you get cheap parts it's quite obvious the quality won't be there otherwise everyone would be driving Dacias.... still, you'd expect to see your OE equipment last a bit longer than that. This is fairly bad issue to me because even though i'm pretty confident with my spanners, it's not a 30 minute job and i haven't got loads of spare time atm. I have now bought a set of Cupra ones, these ones to be more specific but this time i'm not doing it, not with all this rain... side note: 85 quid an hour is a lot of money reagardless, that's how much Ford MK charge for getting an intern on £6.19/hr to work on it. I understand that they have a business to run but we don't have a business behind us.
  9. Sorry Matt, i don't agree with none of that nonsense. Let's be serious here, what difference are you talking about? Who you think is going to do the oil change in your local VAG dealership? Is it the senior mechanic? Or is it one of the 6 or 7 spotty 17 year old's they took on fresh from college? Regardless whoever does is though, they won't be doing it any better than me because there's only one way to flush and change the oil out of an engine. And the same applies to the filters. They charge you 2 hrs of labour at the tune of something stupid like 85 quid an hour to do a 10 minute job. And the check list everyone seems to mention? Most of it is ticked without being looked at. As for the OE vs OEM vs specialist parts... In 18 months of Fabia ownership i'm about to fit the 2nd set of genuine suspension bushes. Even though i was advised to bite the bullet and fit something solid, i voted for the genuine set and they lasted 10 months.
  10. An oil and filter change takes 10 minutes, while you wait for it to drain you can check your fluids. Brake strip on a service? It's a first for me but we're always learning. if you're doing it just for the stamp then it doesn't matter.
  11. My PD100 has just turned 108k and she feels tight as a nut. My old Passat B5 (my mom still drives it) has 156k and as far as the engine is concerned, there's health for another 50k. Just not sure if the rest will stay together though.
  12. Now that you mentioned that you're a student, it might get a bit expensive to run a 330d or a second car (the scooby or Clio mentioned) in insurance alone. With the mods you already done in your car, especially in terms of braking and handling, you'll struggle to find something as tight as that. A well balanced vrs is very hard to beat regardless if you're running 200bhp or not. (which you're not that far off tbh) With a beemer you'll get the power and the rwd and that's a lot of fun but because you have a mod mentality you'll end up modding it. I have driven a 330d on 345bhp and let me tell you... it can be a hairy affair, it takes the fun out of it as the back end keeps coming out, tyres won't last that long and they are 300 quid a corner. And they're not that good on fuel either, you'll be looking at 35mpg if you drive one of those carefully. It is a modders dream though.
  13. With that sort of money you can start looking at toys like the 330d and if you do decide to invest in one of those you're looking a 300bhp+...
  14. So does that mean you can remove the cat and still pass an mot? That's new to me...
