  1. Dealer / Skoda UK never even offered it. New engine in the workshop less than a week after failing oil consumption test. CTHE engine mind
  2. They didn't say anything specific, I'll ask for copies of workshop sheet monday.
  3. Found out by chance my 2013 vrs got the Dsg oil changed by the dealer while car was in for its new engine. Not mentioned on collection of car, only when I took it back in to find out why S wouldn't engage. A cable needed adjusting and all is fine now just surprised it wasn't mentioned. I guess I didn't ask but then I was only vaguely aware of the issue. Are staff instructed to be hush hush I wonder?
  4. Cthe new Feb 2013, just failed oil consumption test. apparently I'm waiting on the "technical team" in Milton keynes to advise on next steps. Will keep you posted
  5. I am tempted! Have you changed anything else suspension wise?
  6. Thats interesting. I'd be happy with 2500m/l to be honest. What were you using before it stabilised?
  7. Lol indeed! I think I'll get the 12 month service booked then and see what oil it comes back with. I forgot to mention when I called dealer I mentioned having put 3 litres of oil in and was told "those engines were designed to use oil". Strange USP, mind I laughed for the temerity of it
  8. Had my vRS 12 months now from new & enjoying ownership greatly. Being used to annual servicing on other cars i called local Skoda dealer up to get booked in. Oh dear not so simple as car is on variable servicing and not due for another 290 days or 10900 miles. OK so I've only done 4500 miles but I think it's reasonable to want an oil & filter change. If I go ahead with it now I have to have it changed over to fixed servicing which also apparently means 10w 30 oil instead of the 5w long life stuff I'm using. Justification being fixed service= £130 vs variable of £230 I.e. oil costs 100 quid ??? Strange they sold me 5l of quantum for £30. I questioned the logic of not being able to just get a simple task done without messing with the oil type so was told the master technician would be consulted. Anyhow, after sleeping on it the guy on the service desk called me back & assured me my warranty is fine as long as I don't go over 20000 miles or 2 years ( or obviously the maxi dot display). I'm interested to know what service intervals other vRS drivers are on particularly CTHE engines. I'm tempted to leave it but it strikes me as odd particularly as the same guy said I should top up my coolant reservoir with tap water and only go back if it drops again. It's 1cm below min when hot. As a low milage user I' not too freaked but it seems like poor service from what I've had elsewhere. Many thanks for reading
  9. Mine is MY13, 62 plate CTHE. From new (8 miles delivery) covered 3100miles in 8 months, lots of pootling about on school run and commuting to be honest. More recently started to really push on to red line when opportunity opens up after reading some of the threads on here. Early on I noticed a dirty rear end, oily spots on bumper and boot with exhaust pipes pretty "sticky" oily deposit, not dripping oil or anything though. Most recently observed after a rather enjoyable spirited cross country ride the exhaust was looking more sooty than oily. Usage wise I've topped up 2L now and reading top half of hatched area (10mins after a hot run) which is where I try and keep it as paranoid about overfilling. I've been topping up in roughly 250ml aliquots and never gone off the dipstick, though once went slightly below hatched area. For the record I'm topping up with the quantum longlife my local dealer advises they use in servicing. So by my reckoning Skoda would deem this level of oil consumption acceptable at around 0.4L/1000km, fingers crossed it lessons over the next 3000m.
  10. I'd asumed I was buying an ubertrendy crossover :wonder:
  11. Only 1200 miles covered but round town stop start in the cold was about 29mpg, recent "warmer" weather about 35. Only decent motorway run worked out about 38mpg, engine only 200 mile son it though, another trip this week to compare. BTW All figures based on brim to brim rather than maxidot
  12. Fair point! guess I'm a man of few words (typed anyhow), no offence meant to OP. My more wordy response would be that if there is even the slighest doubt that there was a problem with the fuel I would dump it for peace of mind. Mind you I'm always considered a pretty risk averse kinda guy. I never observed the 3 second rule lets put it that way. Anyhow. Welcome to the forum "DisplayName", though I'm more of an observer than a participant in the debate, as a new fabia owner I sure have learnt a lot from being a member here.
  13. Funny reading this today, as I just got the formal confirmation letter from SKoda UK of my extended 5 yr warranty purchased with the car order, nearly 2 months after collection of car. Dealers position was, it's on the order confirmation sheet therefore good enough, service book stamp is irrelevant. I said it wasn't, they said - ring any skoda garage it'll be on the computer. Funnily enough I wasn't happy with that either. Anyhow I mentioned it on the SKoda UK customer satisfaction survey which turned up at a convenient time in my inbox and and lo - today I have it in black and white on a letterhead "genuine SKODA factory warranty for five years/100,000 miles" as well. Happy now, though simply stamping the service book in the appropriate place in the first place would have been good enough for me. So dealer service lacking but SKoda UK stepped up. Anyhow, no good to OP but relevant to anyone thinking of buying new - cost me £245 rather than the figures quoted previously and fully transferable to all subsequent owners, so possibly most valuable extra come selling time - rude not to IMHO.
  14. Good luck to you, I can't imagine how long it'll take me to 100 posts!
  15. Thanks for the replies folks. I'm kinda reassured that the worst I'm doing is affecting the wax as I intend to keep on top of this with a month old car. Plus with a gaggle of under 5's getting transported daily there are always wet wipes in the car - that extra glove box lid comes in very handy. Made the mistake with previous cars of leaving bird poop on between washes and the evidence is hard to hide later on. The other thing is, my house seems to be right under the flight path for several parts of a huge sparrow which roosts nearby, so the problem is daily splats at the moment. The main roosting site is about 1/2 mile away and to be fair it is breathtaking to watch the flocks congregate and perform they're acrobatics. Humbling really. I shouldn'y say it but the sound of so many wings whooshing low over the roof tops rivals the roar of the vRS boosting past 6k, hmmm well almost.
  16. Just wondered your thoughts on whether using baby wipes to remove bird ****, is it likely to cause any damage to paintwork? Had a particularly nasty splat that needed moving and lo! there were babywipes in the glovebox. Thought afterwards maybe not such a good idea as no idea what solvents are used in the things - assumed if it's good enough for the babies it's good enough for the motor. I'd be gutted if I shouldn't be using them as they work an absolute treat!
  17. typo and cannot edit post some reason, I mean NICE looking car
  18. Very cice looking car, to save me googling whats the vital statistics?
  19. Thanks for the tips folks, definately head for Herculeum then as I loved Pompei but for the crowds! Like the idea of some decent walking in Sorrento so I'll research this some more. Thanks for the tip but we won't be going near the train station hopefully, planning on picking up a Fiat Panda from the airport. I hope I don't come to regret saying this, but I kind of enjoy the Italian driving culture i.e. if theres room for an extra cars width, there's a lane. Certainly keeps you alert. Did see some crazy blind corner, mountainous drop off switchback corner type overtaking last time which left me speechless. Interesting though and more fun than the M4 that's for sure.
  20. Sorry, don't want to sound like a guided tour advert! I've booked flights & hotel for a significant anniversary to spend 5 days in Sorento, Italia. Got a flights, hire car from Napoli airport and hotel booked up but apart from that I'm still looking for ideas on the itinery. Been before & have fond memories of Sorrento itself, capri, pompei and positano in particular. We love the area or wouldn't be going back, it made a big impression on us. I was wondering if they were any Briskodi's who had any experience or recommendations of the area they would like to share?
