  1. Picked my SE L up last week and came with Pirelli P7s on 235/45 18 inch rims
  2. I VT'd my Octavia at the beginning of the month and was collected last week. Even though i had done 15k more than the contracted mileage no excess charges were applied
  3. Hi guys, for those of you who have already gone through the VT experience, i am looking for comments and experiences regarding the vehicle inspection process. How fine a tooth comb do they use when inspecting the vehicle? Do they apply the same fair wear and tear guidelines which apply to lease car hand-backs? Typically, what is the time scale from making that initial call to having the car taken away? I'd be keen to hear about your experiences as i am preparing to call SUK to start the ball rolling. I have a small rear bumper scratch which has broken the paint and a deep scratch on one of the side windows which both need repairing prior to termination. My car is 3 years old on a 42 month PCP. 6 months before the end of the deal and i was offered 9.2K part ex (GMFV= 9K). I have owned 3 Octavia's in the last 6 years (all on PCP) and whilst i have always exceeded the contracted mileage i have always had equity in the car come changeover. Different story this time due to the shocking residuals on the Mk 3 as i currently owe £1600 more than the car is worth. Even with the £2K deposit contribution on offer on PCP at the moment i am faced with paying more to move into a lesser specced octavia so i see no option but to VT. To me, VT is seen as a last resort, however, from reading other threads on the forum it seems i'm not the only one in this position. I am currently looking to move to a 2 yr PCH where i can get a Superb SE L for practically the same money i am paying just now. Anyway, keen to hear how those in similar positions got on
  4. Just replaced a pair of AS2's after 26K on the front wheels with 4 new AS3's and i have to say they are just as good. minimal road noise and very grippy in dry and wet weather. with regards to rim protection, my 18" Golus alloy will tell you they are not up to the job. Wife just kerbed it this morning on the school run
  5. Are you liable for excess mileage charges (pro rata)?
  6. Just replaced my original front Conti SC2's after 16k and they were also worn more down the middle than they were on the outers. Wheel alignment showed the fronts to be slightly out, however, my local garage checked the pressure in the fronts a few weeks prior to the changeover and they were found to be inflated to 35psi which will go some way to explaining the irregular wear pattern. This taught me that supermarket pressure gauges are somewhat inaccurate! Anyway i put some Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's on the advice of fellow briskodians and first impressions are positive- less road noise, good performance in the wet and reasonably priced at around £100 each. No idea on wear rates as its still early days
  7. Folks, after 13k miles my original Conti sport contacts are done and I am looking for recommendations for a premium tyre which will hopefully last 20k without compromising on grip/wet performance etc.. I was looking at Goodyear eagle F1 asymmetric 2 or Dunlop sport max RT Any opinions on either of these good or bad?? Most importantly what's wear rate like on both?
  8. Mine has just started doing the same thing. Booked into dealers tomorrow to investigate another rattle so will get them to check this out at the same time. Will let you know what they say
  9. Glad to hear it's finally going. Been following the thread since the beginning. Sounds like you've had an absolute nightmare. You might want to publish the reg number once you've got rid so that any potential Octavia owners can steer clear of this lemon.
  10. If you are financing via PCP and the rate plus add-ons changes between the order date and delivery date they should put you on the more attractive package. That was the official line from my dealer at the time I ordered my Octavia in November last year when they were offering 0% PCP plus 3 years servicing. If my memory serves me right SUK had dropped free servicing in Q1 of 2014 when my car was delivered, however, I still got it as that was what was on offer at the time of ordering.
  11. Mine does the same when the windows are open. i seem to remember that my old MkII also suffered from this a little but was nowhere near as bad as the new motor!
  12. Zeberdy, I moved from a 1.6TDI MkII to a 2.0 TDI MKIII and I have to say the 2.0 unit is fantastic. Pulls really well right through the gears and rev range. I am achieving identical MPG figures to the old 1.6TDI (55mpg) so my running costs have not really increased moving up to the bigger engine. Whilst I have no experience pulling caravans I would say go for the 2.0TDI. Road tax on the 2 litre is only £20 p/a You can select a full size spare wheel as an option on the SE with the 16 inch alloys. Heated front screen can be added separately although I went for the full winter pack. At the time I ordered in Oct 2013 the heated front screen was £200 on its own
  13. Was the rattling noise present constantly i.e accelerating and cruising? I've started to notice a rattle when turbo kicks in around the same rev range but only when engine has warmed up and is put under load.
  14. Hi, I've recently started to hear a rattling noise when the turbo kicks in during acceleration. It only seems to happen when engine has warmed up Will try to get it into dealers for a check this week Any suggestions as to what may be causing this? Cheers Dave
  15. I went from a MkII SE hatch to a MkIII SE estate and I have to say that, with the exception of slightly cheaper interior plastics, the MkIII is a far superior car overall. It truly is a big step up in class and refinement.
  16. I have to agree with trevman. I too went from a 1.6 MkII to a 2.0 MkIII and I feel it is much better all round. I've only driven 2000 miles from new in the 2.0 tdi and in terms of fuel economy the 2 litre is only a few MPG short of the figures I was achieving on a well run-in 1.6tdi. Currently getting 52 mpg compared with 57 mpg in the old 1.6. I'm expecting my figures to improve once the engine loosens and the better weather comes around
  17. This may sound daft but what size of space saver should be ordered with 18 inch Golus wheels on an SE estate? My car arrived with a 16 inch full size spare, but dealer now looking to change it for the appropriate space saver. He claims I need the 17 inch space saver but needs to double check. Needless to say I'm a little confused! Can anyone out there tell me what size the spare should be?
  18. Are they still offering you an Elegance to replace the rejected SE? Obviously I don't know all about the hassle you've had with the dealer but Isn't the £1000+ difference in list price a decent amount of goodwill? If my dealer offered me an upgrade when I rejected my car I would have taken it without hesitation. In my case SUK were pushing to change the engine after I'd only put 200 miles on the clock. Luckily my dealer backed my stance and put me in a new car no questions asked Just my opinion, but like I said I don't know your full story. Hope you get everything sorted soon. It's can be such a stressful experience
  19. When i rejected my old Mk2 the PCP finance was just transferred over onto the replacement vehicle. Same spec, same list price and GFV. Payment dates also remained the same. Dealer handled everything with SUK and VWFS. I have my insurance through Skoda and there was no problem swapping over. Price remained the same and no admin fees. Glad to hear you are getting rid of the lemon.
  20. You may be right. I'll just ask when it goes in for its first service
  21. According to the terms of my 3 year service plan you don't get an oil change on the 2nd service anymore, just an "inspection service". Think I'll be providing my own oil come 20,000 miles. Here's what the letter says 1 x oil change at 10,000 miles or 12 months 1 x inspection service at 20,000 miles or 24 months 1 x oil change at 30,000 miles or 36 months Is this standard now? even though I got the package for free it Seems like you are getting less and less for your money these days.
  22. You should definitely push for a discount off list price. If you want some ammunition to take to your dealer go online and get quotes from online brokers like carwow and drivethedeal and see if they will match it. I ordered a 2.0TDI SE estate back in October and got 6% discount on the 0% PCP deal. Initially my dealer was not willing to offer any discount but that all changed when i showed them the online quotes. You should still be able to achieve discounts in that ball park. If you don't ask you don't get as they say Good luck!
  23. Check this thread out http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/299224-hissing-noise-from-the-back-of-octavia-3-diesel/
  24. Picked up my new wheels yesterday 2.0 TDI SE Estate Corrida Red Winter Pack 18 inch Golus Alloys Std Cruise Spare Wheel (space saver) Ordered 26th October Absolutely loving it! Big step up in class from my Mk 2 1.6TDI
