  1. In my Fab VRS I used to go through a tank roughly every week or so. Max mileage was (see attached), max MPG was (see other attached). I miss those days... Course, average was closer to 58mpg. This was after having followed a very slow truck up the A595 to Carlisle.
  2. Working margin is less than that? Wow. I guess I got the deal through having the finance then... Interesting to note. I certainly didn't want to screw the guy to the wall, I work on commission too so I understand the pressure. Still, he was happy with the deal (think it helped his figures as much as anything).
  3. If you can't get 15% off (including jumbo box & climate, possibly 18" wheels) then you're just not trying hard enough. Don't be afraid to walk away from the dealer if he's not going for it; they really need to get a sale. FYI, I purchased a vRS TDI at the end of August, it was approved-used, 1yr old with 4500 miles, jumbo box & climate. I got 15% off because the dealer was desperate for sales; he said (and he may not have been entirely truthful) that he only did the deal for figures, and the car didn't make them a profit (finance did though, the poor guy still has to eat!). Good luck!
  4. Had a pug 206 for 4 years, did 92,000 "enthusiastically-driven" trouble-free miles. Not even a creaking dashboard. I don't think it's fair to generalise like that; The whole national car-stereotype thing isn't true any more. Some dealers are good, some are bad. Some individual cars are good, some are bad. My dad had a Primera with panel gaps literally big enough to post a letter through. The whole body was rhombus-shaped (in plan view) from the factory. Drove ok, it was a bit crab-like though...
  5. I have the idea that the brake calipers are different; vRS petrol they're green, diesel they're red. Well, I've got a diesel vRS & my calipers are red... anyone else verify??
  6. Could the rear-view auto-dimming mirror be retro-fitted to a vRS perchance? It' something I would find useful for when my hands are full (i.e. full of lock on the twisties round here...)? Is it just a case of buying the mirror & replacing the standard (with attendant wiring)?
  7. Just about to pass on my unmodified Fabia vRS (should be saying goodbye to it tomorrow)... Keep an eye out at Telfords Skoda, Carlisle. Black magic. It's a cracking little car... Getting an Octy vRS instead.
  8. Got a couple of pics.... First, range - Max I'd seen ever. I know, the range is fairly easily faked but I did end up getting 540 miles out of that tank. Next, MPG - I was stuck behind a lorry for 25 miles on country roads, and the truck only did 45mph. The Fabia is very economical at that speed....
  9. I had a remap done on my previous car from Superchips... they were brilliant, managed to negotiate them down a few quid & they are backed by a warranty as well. The agent I used was Mid Kent Vehicle Services, in Aylesford, Kent. Absolutely brilliant bloke, and a very smooth, clean map which just transformed the car. No clutch slip problems, no noticeable increase in smoke, just one turbo failure... which was normal wear & tear (it went at 92,000 miles!). I'd recommend them!
  10. Nicely done! That is a good bit of haggling you've done there!
  11. Ah, that makes a lot of sense! Explains the knocking & and the better cornering post-operatively. Next question... what on earth would make these fail after only 20k motoring with no bangs?? Surely they should last more than 20k miles??
  12. Hello, Had the joy of taking my Fabia vRS into Sherlodge Skoda on Friday fro its' 20k mile service. I asked them to check out a knocking sound, I suggested it could be the well-known gearbobox-trying-to-communicate-by-tapping-morse-code-messages problem, with the simple solution of a dollop of grease. When I collected the car, I was told they had replaced the drop link arms. My father, a mechanic of 35 years, wasn't entirely sure what that meant ("different people use different terminology"). Any ideas? Anyone else had the same problem? Now it's fixed the car is more stable, planted & corners more solidly than before. Also, quick plug, Sherlodge Skoda in Gillingham, Kent are absolutely excellent. I even got a courtesy car, a nice new Roomster3. Quite liked it really, only question is, can you get a PD130 lump into it....
  13. This happens a lot on the A2 in Kent from Junction 1 of the M2 through to Gravesend... there's me trundling along & I see heavy braking, then crawling along, then hard acceleration. I kinda feel sorry for them, then realise they deserve what they get because they didn't read the signs... Still can't stand bloody cameras though, especially SPECS through roadworks which the government has admitted INCREASE the chances of an accident... Yet they're still used. Nice.
  14. I've used both V-power diesel & BP Ultimate Diesel, and I found the performance of them was broadly similar. Both reduced smoking, with V-Power offering a slight increase in power over BP Ultimate. Where I am, both cost similar amounts, but I've settled on BP Ultimate. Over time, BP Ultimate gives 5-8mpg more than supermarket fuels, and about 2mpg over V-Power.
  15. Tend to run BP if I can because it seeeeeeems to make a difference. Shell Ultimate Diesel definitely makes a difference, a lot less smoky if nothing else, again seeeems to be a bit quicker to pick up but it's hard to tell really.
  16. Having looked at people's recommendations, and the double-coat windscreen bit etc, I think I shall p'chase another two if that's ok.... mine and the running totals amended below... OldFlo - 4 = 4 daiking - 2 = 6 skudmissile- 4 = 10 sworrall - 2 = 12 spinndrift - 4 = 16 phlashbios - 4 = 20 Pythix - 6 = 26 Purp23 - 4 = 30
  17. I've got the same problem... Was it fixed under warranty? What was the fix?
  18. Hey, Just logged on Briskoda again after a bit of a hiatus (weddings to organise & all that!) and spotted the previous GB for this... trawled through the whole thread only find they'd all gone! Then, lo, there was a Light and that Light was Utopia! I'm in! Will need to pay by cheque or bank transfer as I don't use paypal (if that's ok?). OldFlo - 2 = 2
  19. Sorry to say it's an issue on my MY07 vRS, and also on my father's MY07 vRS too (the sod bought the same car as me! Dealer owes me commission IMHO). It's particularly bad on my father's car. So, alas, the stutter is still in evidence and Mr Jack, you are lucky indeed that it's not a problem for you. HTH:thumbup:
  20. Leaving the engine idling for more than minute, especially a diesel, really doesn't achieve anything except to burn fuel. If you start the car, de-ice it and then get in, it's not got any warmer than if you just start, pause & go. Just drive the bugger! (But gently to start with. Obviously.)
  21. hello, Following previous discussions here about using biodiesel in the wee vRS, I understood that there weren't any cost benefits by using it but there are mechanical/power benefits and of course environmental benefits. Would more people use biodiesel in the vRS if it was cheaper? If you would, then maybe you could consider signing this petition to support the reduction of fuel duty on biodiesel . If nothing else, it'll demonstrate the support of enthusiatic drivers for being environmentally responsible. Cheers!
  22. You'er right, it's not fast (having driven Scooby STi's, E55 AMGs, Ferrari 348s etc etc). But it bloody feels like it is! Although... anyone seen the Evo review of the Fiat Panda 100Hp? They really rate it, and it's only 10K... maybe worth considering as a replacement, cos it's light, cheaper insurance, engineered by Ferrari blokes and has just GOT to be better than the slow, smoky, heavy vRS... :sofahide:
  23. Then you weren't trying hard enough!
