  1. Who ever thought up this stupid idea ? I've Borrowed a Kamiq for the weekend, this would certainly stop me from buying one. It's annoying at best and dangerous at worse. My Yeti is (in my opinion) a far better car.
  2. Afternoon all, I've had my Octavia 2.0tdi estate for 12 years now and I'm thinking about a newer car. Not a brand new one, maybe a year old or so. I thought about a Yeti but I'm now thinking more towards a Fabia Estate. I'm now retired and only do short journeys of 5 miles or less normally with my terriers. I'm not particularly bothered what engine's in it. What's the best model for me do you reckon ? Thanks.
  3. Thanks, I'll be getting a petrol manual I reckon.
  4. Evening all, I'm going to be replacing my Octavia Estate 2.0 tdi I've had for 12 years, it's been an excellent car. Now I've retired I'm after a Yeti. I only do 6,000 miles a year what is there to look out for in a Yeti, I'll be getting a 2 year old car approx., not a new one? Thanks .
  5. I'll bet this was a main dealer....get an independent to replace the discs they're not expensive.
  6. Had the car fixed by the excellent independent German Car Specialists of Doncaster 01302 890434. It was a fault in the A/C unit.
  7. Afternoon folks I've got a strange problem with my Octavia 2005 tdi, after about 10 miles of driving the climate control blows out hot air intermittently despite what setting the temp is set at. Previous to this it's working perfectly. Any ideas ? Thanks.
  8. Horton's are indeed rubbish, they painted my Octavia (badly) on three occasions under warranty.
  9. I had the same with Horton's of Lincoln, very poor. I persisted and they painted my Octavia 3 times under warranty. they will try to fob you off .. but be persistent ....not like Toyota my wife's Yaris has been sorted without fuss. My next car's a Toyota.
  10. Evening all, I've had my Octavia for 8 years now, an excellent car. However the climate control is behaving rather strangely .I have the temperature settings at 16 degrees both sides normally on auto, the problem is after about 10 minutes driving the air coming out of the vents suddenly gets hot. If I turn the heater settings onto the screen it stays hot.I have to turn the settings to off then on again for it to stabilize...any ideas ta.
  11. This morning when starting my octavia 2.0 tdi the red coolant warning light illuminated. I checked the level in the tank and it was as it should be. I turned the engine off then on again and the light's not gone out. The car's running perfectly (the air temp was minus 1 at the time). Any ideas? Thanks.
  12. Better brains than you and I have tried, this is just what I've found that works.
  13. I've had my Octavia for 7 years now and about this time of year the windscreen gets all misted up. The blower is useless, however there is a simple cure.I found this out years ago when I was a Police motorcyclist, out in all weathers. I retired 7 years ago... what we did to stop visors misting up. Just get some thick kitchen roll and a couple of drops of Fairy liquid. Apply it to the windscreen when it's dry, make sure it's well rubbed in and you'll have no more misting on your screen.
  14. I've had an Elegance estate for the past 7 years, it's now 9 years old with 86,000 miles on the clock. It has been serviced on fixed servicing schedule by our excellent independant, Deutsh Mark here in Doncaster. The car just passed it's MOT last week without any advisories. It is excellent, very economical and quick if needed too. It has cruise control and traction control as standard (full leather as well). Things to look out for are obvious things, service history, cam belt as previously mentioned. Also check the sills for rust as they are prone to this as is the rear tailgate, give it a good inspection. Regards Monkster.
  15. About 6 months ago the climate control stopped working on my Octavia 2.0tdi, I had it gassed and it was still not blowing cold air. About a wek ago all was ok, it's started working perfectly now. Has the car had divine intervention or what ? Regards Monkster.
  16. That's just what I did when I first spotted my sills starting to go, that was 2 years ago. No problems since.
  17. Hi, I've had my Octavia estate, a 2.0 tdi for 7 yrs, it's excellent. Mine's the Elegance spec so it's got the standard 16 inch alloys on, the tyre sizes on mine are 205/55 r16 v. I've tried a few makes but the ones i prefer by far are Uniroyal Rainsports. In my opinion a fantastic tyre. Regards , Monkster.
  18. My estate, (140 tdi) will do an indicated 130 easily one up with 2 Jack Russell terriers in the back.
  19. Check for rust on the tailgate where the number plate lights are situated and along the crease. Other points to look for rust are sills due to stone chipping and front wings.
  20. It's all too common I'm afraid. I recently took Mrs Monksters 2006 Toyota Yaris to Burrows Toyota, Doncaster for it's MOT. The car (was) on a service and MOT plan. They failed it on "Excessively corroded brake pipes." I had previously checked the car and knew this was not the case. They told me that they could repair the car "While we still have it on the ramps" for £198! I took the car to another MOT centre the following day and guess what it passed. I subsequently cancelled the service plan and chewed the ears off the service manager. Regards Monkster.
  21. Check for rusting on the tailgate and sills, there's been some post on here.
