  1. I go the AFS function fault with both headlights pointing into the ground. Diagnosed by main agent as no signal from sensor (£95), came back the next week to have a new front height sensor fitted, (£135+£30). The sensor had seized which would explain the nsf squeak over speed bumps. In hindsight splashing through puddles (which are kinda fun?) probably didn't help? My car is 6 years old with 65,000 miles.
  2. I've just sent tis e-mail to my Skoda dealer, should be interesting to see what they say? My Superb has, in my opinion and experience, marginal front brakes. The car is booked in with you for a service in a few weeks’ time and I have asked for the discs to be replace as they are worn. As far as I have managed to research the front discs I have are 288mm (1ZE) but, as I have 18inch wheels, I should be able to fit the V6 3.6 (1LK) discs that are 345mm. As my discs need replacing anyway would your service department fit new discs, calipers and mountings? If they can please can I have a quote. I hope you can consider this request as it should be a simple job using standard parts that will usefully improve by brakes. And, it may be an interesting job for you technicians?
  3. Good thinking, I'll give them a call. I was over thinking things, but I do still like the idea of bigger discs, if nothing else to fill the void inside the 18inchers!
  4. Its is brake fade, they are already vented and now a liitle bit blue!
  5. I've just returned from a long trip to Italy on German autobahns fully loaded in my 1.8tsi Elegance (18inch wheel) estate and found that the brakes are limited at high speed and load. I'm wondering if it’s a simple upgrade to fit the V6 front discs without a caliper change (unlikely) or with a caliper change (more likely)? Does anyone have any experience of this? Please don't take this question as an opportunity to talk about driving technique. I want better brakes as I am quite happy using my brakes to their fullest and I expect them to work. (sorry if this sounds grumpy) And no, before you ask, I don’t sit on the brakes downhill, that’s what the gearbox is for. This is about high speed and heavy braking more than just once. Mal.
  6. Yes, all under warranty. Viewed the engine and it is excellent condition except for very rough piston rings and a surprising amount of carbon on the tops of the pistons. The plan is to replace the parts above and I've also asked for the oil pump to be replace as it seems silly not to while the engine is on the bench. Now I just need some certainty that the repair will last a few years at least...
  7. The proposed fix is new pistons and rings plus the chain and tensioner while they are at it as its a known issue. I’m going over to inspect the engine tomorrow. I’ve asked if they will run a glaze buster down the bores and I am waiting for an answer. When I’m there I plan to also check the turbo and if possible the camshafts. The pictures I’ve seen so far show negligible wear on the pistons, bores and big end bearings. So some questions; Is this the cause of the oil loss? Is this an adequate repair? Does this engine have replaceable cylinder liners? Will I be looking at an engine replacement in a few years time? Should Skoda extend the warranty? Should I exchange the car now and expect Skoda to help towards the costs? Mal.
  8. 2y 11 months and 30,000 miles. Low oil level warning light 6 months ago and needed just over 1ltr of oil to bring the level back up. Last month low oil pressure light came on! Skoda have been superb so far but I have just been told, following a 3 week road test, that they have taken the pistons out and are talking to Skoda about new pistons and liners or a replacement engine. As the saying goes, I will keep you informaed. Mal.
  9. Fantastic. Purchased my Christmas present from our friend in Portugal. Replaced 5NO 035 730 C with 3C8 035 730 C on my 2010 Superb Elegance. Now I have my Blackberry curve 9300 and wife’s iPhone 4 working beautifully. Happy Christmas, Mal.
