  1. OK please help with advise as I am out of my depth here.. My wifes car 7 months ago was running nice and then died ! wouldn't start. Had the ECU sent away and it was fine. They deleted the immobilizer as they all thought that was the issue. Anyway it came back still will not start back and forth and lots of head scratching.. in the end the car was towed to another garage who did this type of work eg electrical canbus stuff. so it's now being said it's the ABS ECU that is not communicating with the ECU and that needs replacing £700 1st question i am going to ask is.. can a second hand one be swapped over ( reprogrammed to match ? ) is £700 for a new one decent?
  2. Yes pls sorry been so busy with work and then Christmas came. What do you think postage would be budd.. best tape it to some wood for strength.. PM me as I don't come on here very often and we can get this sorted.. :-)
  3. Yep.... they don't fit.. Pants. Oh well one of those things. I have a 2007 Mk2 Octy so they should fit that.. I might as well not bother with Alloys for the Mk1 Unless any one knows any that are going cheap ish.. :-( if not I have a set of Audi A4 alloys for sale 5x112 's :-( £100
  4. when I went to buy them the chap said they where A4 ones but when i went to do the deal with the owner once he was back, turns out they came off an A3 so I'm as confused as you are LOL
  5. I think I am looking at things looking to go 195 55 16 and use my old Porsche tyres as they are free. and need using before they go hard. reason.. I checked this http://tire-size-conversion.com/speedometer-calibration/
  6. sounds like triggers broom LOL... I have respayed, bonnet, pass door, both sills, drivers door, and rear drivers side quater. only to keep it tidy.. all the main panels where key scratches from it's time in London ( north ). Mainly to keep it tidy.. when you have a car with such low miles and your the one gaining all the benefit of it's use over the next 5 years then you want to look after it.. it's funny I have no interest in getting a newer car.. This does 100% every thing we want even the AC works. our other Skoda has less spec and no ac that works! we want to sell that one and keep the older one.. 1.6 Petrol works great the newer one is Diesel 1.9 But your right if you can get the panel in the breakers yard clean then you just bolt it on.. I looked at getting a pass door but it was showing signs of a poor cheap blow over in the past that was peeling.. so I wouldn't have gained anything.. better repainting what I had
  7. OK I have them here now.. Wife is out at work. The wheels have arrived. OK I was told they are from an Audi A3 which are 5 x 100 now the wheels don't say it on there, eg on the casting numbers on the back.. they currently have 205 55 16 tyres on them.. I guess I will wait till she is back to see if they fit.. If not then I guess they will fit on our other Skoda which is a Mk2 Skoda Octavia as that currently has steel wheels ( taxi spec ) and as we want to sell it. We are still quids in anyway.. My only concern is I don't really want baloon tyres on the rims what size tyres does alloy wheels have for the octavia in 16" I would rather have some 195's infact my old Porsche has a full set of 4 195's that I have done line 3000 miles on in 10 years.. I would be happy to swap them and use them up and get new rubber for the Porsche. ( always a plus side :-) )
  8. I am in the same boat we have the same model and it's done 62k and I am more worried about some one else bumping into it than us. Because they would write it off in a second! it's worth more to us as a low miles car than it is to them the insurance company.. Nice one so glad it's getting fixed.. I would even go as far to offer to use used parts in order to keep the car on the road..
  9. Hi Guys I was looking to smarten up my wifes car.. I have been offered a set of wheels like these ones on ebay And I was thinking will these be a nice simple swap ?? Will I need wheel bolts? being her old wheels where Steel 15" ones any advice is greatful thanks guys...
  10. top stuff thanks Well I ordered this off ebay I called them up to be honest and paid for it over the phone.. at 2pm it arrived the next day at 7;45am!! bang on.. £31 so guess what I have to do today :-( at night time cos the wife is in the car at work LOL!!!
  11. My wife the car wrecker! has now managed to break the drivers window.. it's the winter frost classic.. frozen window and then operate the window and it sticks and the cables un wind off the motor type affair! so guess who's got to fix that while out in the street in the freezing cold.. yep me.. I have not bothered with the repair kit too much phaffing and messing about for what is a tiny cost saving I have gone for the whole assembly for ease and I don't want to be out in the cold for any longer than I need to be.. Any step by step's out there on how to do this?? I wouldn't mind I have only just put the bloody door back togeather from painting the car door!!!!!!!!!! :-/
  12. Hi Budd yes I have.. BTW we are on month 3 of this issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yep it's still at the garage. Anyway we sent the ECU off to a place on the IOW for rebuild or what ever it is they do.. so I am just waiting for it to come back.. will up date you basicly all the local peeps with their computers including vag comm just couldn't get in the ECU or if they did it dropped them out ASAP ! :-(
  13. Hey up.. this Mk1 Octavia has been the best so far! being as our Mk2 is still off the road 3 months later!!!!!!!!!! but today the wife mentioned the car was running rough! and sure enough I went out later today when it was 4 hours cold and started it up.. it starts ok but it's ticker over is rough and you have to rev it to pick up.. winter is coming and it's set to get colder so any known issues to look for .. I am thinking of changing the plugs as they are cheap enough and poss leads as they are the orginal ones ( not that they are normally an issue I would have thought ) it's a super nice orginal 62000 mile car so not high miles ! I need any input you got cheers ... if this breaks down then she will have to use my Porsche.... So PLEASE HELP ME FIND A FIX!!!!!!! :-/ LOL!
  14. Oh sorry only just seen this.. sorry not on here very often.. is it still available ?
  15. thanks Budd I will look into that.. so I am seeing a patern here.. if there is some other electrical fault then it makes the ECU sick.. so what's my electrical fault :-( it gets darker! gulp! ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££
  16. I'm interested but Post is my issue.. Unless I can get it to Rothly to family who can bring it down in slow time. Shame it's not silver
  17. tempted as I do come up that way from time to time.. but nothing on the cards at the mo .. :-( look ok too.
  18. that's the problem they can't read them.. so I am told the VW man my mate knows in the trade said " nope " it's toast got to send away for repair! thinking of trying the ECU doctor or the other one on the IOW
  19. Well it's been over 2 years now running two Octavia's one Mk1 Petrol 1.6 and one Mk2 1.9diesel The Mk1 only just on 62,000 miles. for an O2 is quite low miles I guess. Where the 1.9deisel is on 89,000 on an 07 the Mk1 has been the most reliable to be honest. The only issue being the Scuttle with water ingress. It flooded the car when parked for 2 weeks holiday ! driving back with 2"'s of water in the floor was not much fun! but with that sorted I found it was the electrical cover in the skuttle that had warped and was letting in water right onto the electrics!!!!!!! NICE anyway it took a week to dry out and had to cut the foam floor out to dry it better, No lasting affects in the car after that and it's not leaking now.. only a tiny weep I've noticed on the passenger door strip! at least I know where I am looking at it.. I even went mad and painted half the car as it had scratches from it's days in the big smoke ( London ) where youffs marked their area with my car!!! *******! " X " 's on the car bonnet boot and doors! anyway it's like new again I did it my self because a body shop would have been £700 era and it's cost me £80 so far and I have painted 50% of the car. The Mk2 !!! OH dear god.. great car to be honest... but it just stopped ( ECU issue ) I am sure it will all get fixed but when's a good time for a car to fail on you! but other than that its been great car.. But I like the Mk1 better.. Thinking of pimping up the Mk1 abit.. What interior is best I have a standard one and I was thinking leather but A) the breakers are all up north are sensible price all the ones down South way too much ! Silverlake and Amersham being the two worst when I have asked! I wouldn't mind they paid £100-£150 for the car to break! and alloy wheels I was thinking of looking out for some 15" alloy wheels I like Alfa Romeo ones I have seen but anything that fits is best.. Oh and a VRS boot spoiler I would like to find one of them if any one knows of one for sale
  20. Any one know who is best to use to send an ECU off to.. it's just stopped talking to the immobilizer, loss of comms. I am told the ABS Pump has done this.. the Rad fans come on with the key but that's all it will not start.. I have heard of BBS reman but I sent some thing off to them before and they where well, lets leave that there.. any one else what happened to simple cars 2007 Octavia 1.9diesel Taxi spec ( eg basic no remote key thing )
  21. Yeah I hope it's not that but having said that if it is then I guess once the computer can get in it we can clear it or better still delete it. It did have a funny fault with it that we lived with.. when you turn the car off the windscreen wiper motor just jolts
  22. Hi guys, Wifes Octavia 1.9dti on a 2007 it's just stopped working.. Wife's dad took it to the new Forest and it drove fine.. got there had tea and cake went to start it ......... :-( It turned over but just didn't want to fire up.. When it did start it went a few yards and conked out.. They had the RAC would with his computer and he stated its like the car is not talking to the computer?? Anyway as I surf and have a VW T5 I have a spare key that is just cut to open the vans doors but once I started the van and it drove for like 20 yards and then stopped and cut out.. so much the same way.. So I'm thinking it's the immobilizer that's at fault.. I'm tempted for £15 to go and get a 109 relay ( I know it's prob 20-30% a possible issue ) but still it's been known to cause issues.. But as I have read up quite rightly the power is getting to the ECU to even start the car up.. So any one else had the same? My mate has it at his garage and he can't get it on the computer long enough to do anything with the codes because it throws it's toys out the pram and shuts down talking to the fault reader :-( Any ideas, thanks in advance. Mean While my little old 1.6 Petrol Mk1 Octavia is still going strong and I love it... Starting to the think the more simple they are the more reliable they are... but hey ho....... trouble is i want to get it fixed ASAP because the wife's not driving my Octavia OH NO she's nabbed the keys to the Pimped VW T5
