  1. I'll second this. I dropped my VRS off yesterday for its second service (36K on variable). I found them very friendly, professional and a pleasure to deal with. Cost was £161 including brake fluid change and long life oil. Dealer wanted £299 for the same service. When I picked up the car it had been washed and dried. All in all I would highly recommend DSB. My next service or any work that needs doing - I'll certainly go back there above the main dealer or any other garage. Cheers Richard
  2. Thanks for the comments chaps. I called my local friendly tyre place who I've used for the last 8 years. These did a full wheel alignment when I had the rears fitted. They said they adjusted the whole lot to match the book settings, but would be happy to re-adjust the rear to match the new settings foc. I really can't afford a new set of tyres at present only after fitting the rears just 1.5K ago.....so I may have to live with this issue for a while if it is the rubber. However, the car never felt like this until about 2 months ago and it's had the Dunlops from new...!!
  3. Never tried Khumo - I've always thought they were the cheap rubbish option! But maybe worth a shot then when these wear out!? I'll have to stick my boot in to get through them quicker!!!
  4. I replaced with Dunlops to keep the same tyres through out. I've never mixed different tyres with the intension of keeping the same grip levels all round. Clearly the wrong decision to stick with OE then! :( I've always thought they were noisey, but not had any other issues with grip etc... Cheers for the info stu. I'll check your website and get myself off to the dealers again on Monday.
  5. yup - SP Sport 01A. So the dealer can make these adjustments?
  6. Hi all, over the last 2 months my car has been suffering from terrible handling. I've recently had a new set of tyres on the rear due to them wearing pretty bad on the inside. I thought this would cure the problem, but it hasn't gone away. The car wanders about on uneven surfaces. On the M-way I'm constantly having to correct the steering as it wanders about. It feels a bit strange at the rear in corners as if there is some mild rear steer going on. It's been to the dealers and a technician road tested for 6 miles and told me that all VRS's behave in this way - "it's the wide tyres" I was told. Now this is complete pants cos the car never used to do this and I've driven loads of cars with similar width tyres that never behave in this way. Now I've done a few searches on the forum and have found some info on camber being incorrectly set from the factory. Could this be the cause I wonder???? If so who can do a full geometry check? Can the dealer do this? The car has been to a local reputable tyre fitter and had a laser alignment done but this only adjusts the tracking I believe. The rear was about 3mm out on one side, but still the car behaves in this way. I need to get this sorted as it's spoiling every drive with complete loss of confidence when driving over anything above 7/10ths as the car just doesn’t feel planted like it used to - even more so in the wet. When I had the front tyres replaced at 15K - they were down to the carcass on the inside even though the track was only slightly out :-o Cheers Richard
  7. I brought my VRS from motorpoint nearly 5 months ago and my experience mirrored octaviavrsman's almost exactly - even down to the service light coming on at 4000 miles! Had this and the daylight running lights reset at the dealer and got the car registered with Skoda UK - this is all I had to do, pretty minor considering the ££££'s saved. This is my second car from Mototrpoint and I'll definitely consider going back there again - can't fault them for the price.
  8. I had the daylight running lights turned off yesterday - also had the service light reset. Apparently it's common for the service light to come on early - something to do with the car not being setup correctly at PDC! Charged £32 which ain't too bad.
  9. Yep youre right - it is from Malta. Called the dealer at lunch and they'll look at it once the cars registered with Skoda UK as it's possibly a warranty claim. Will drop my details in with them tomorrow and we'll see from there. I also quizzed them about my daylight running lights and they said they would turn them off. Interestingly they said that it will be UK law next year that all new cars will require day light running lights! This is news to me!
  10. Over the last 900 miles I've watched the spanner indicator come on at ignition time in my VRS. First with 900 miles, then 700, then 500, then 300 and now it's just flashing! Surely this is a bit premature? I understand that there is a sensor that detects the quality of the oil when the car is set to variable servicing. My driving has been mostly lengthy motorway journeys plus a 40 minute journey to and from work each day which includes a small amount of start stop driving. I always wait about 10-15 mins before giving it some beans - enough time for her to warm up. Considering my driving style this seems a bit odd. I've checked the dip stick and the oil is bang on the max and doesn't look particularly dirty. Is there anyother reason this should come on?
  11. I had a Mk II Clio 172 - a cracking car, if you can live with the rattles! Coming from the 172 it's taking me a while to get used to the Octy. It does seem rather heavy (unsurprisingly!) in comparison - and no where near as nimble when chuckin it into the tighter bends, although I'm impressed by the lack of understeer and general adjustability in fast corners. I must admit straight line speed doesn't seem particularly fast (apart from @ silly speeds!), although I've now done 2200 miles it's starting to feel a bit perkier. Power comes in a lot earlier than the 172, which didn't come on song until about 4500 rpm. It also seems a lot smoother through the rev range with no sudden urge at a particular rpm - this is something I miss. 4th gear to me seems the quickest - it just keeps pulling like a train! Other aspects of the car are a complete breath of fresh air compared to the clio. Decent stereo. Build quality is miles and miles apart. And the ride quality over crappy roads is the best I've ever experienced. All in all I love it, but it's not quite (yet) giving me the thrills I'm after. I think a visit to Mr revo might be in store sometime soon
  12. I've been meaning to get intouch with Skoda UK myself about this. When I brought my Clio 172 import a few years ago I had to mail the V5 off to Renault UK for the warranty to become live. Renault UK also honoured the 3rd year (dealer) part of the warranty once it had been registered!! I assumed it would be the same for the VRS - maybe not the 3rd year warranty though!
  13. Crikey guys! Looks like the Ross-tech equivelent is $349 - a bit outa my price bracket. Didn't realise this was conterfeit - I thought it was a cosha piece of kit with an older version of the software. Looks like they ship from China - so that might explain a few things!!! Think I'll visit the dealer afterall! R
  14. Hi all, apologies if this is a dumb question - anyone know if this lead: http://www.ecutool.com/516880106CAN.htm will work for on an 06 octy II VRS?? I know it suggests it will but rather than go head and waste $100 and find it doesn't I though I'd check here first! I'm after fiddling with some settings for daylight running lights and alarm settings etc and rather than visit the dealer just yet, I'd like to have a play myself! Thanks in advance R
