  1. thanks for the reply. yes bizarre it all looks normal, however there are signs of the plastic mount for the screw holding on the trim being turned so obviously someone has had a look. fair point about asking the original mechanic, except that I moved down from scotland to london and haven't been able to reach him. in any case, its been a fair while now...
  2. hi, I am trying to reconnect my rear parking sensors - I have found the control unit next to the driver side rear lights, easy enough just to pull away a bit of the boot trim. However, not clear to me how the sensors have been disconnected - have attached two photos of the control unit - any ideas? I can't see any dangling wires... I have also checked fuse 9 next to the steering wheel, it's in place and fine. thanks for any assistance!
  3. thanks for the reply - I was more trying to isolate one problem from a potential second one. wondering what the easiest way to disconnect (and hence reconnect) the rear parking sensors would be - can't find anything in the fuse diagrams in my user manual.
  4. Hello all, a while ago my rear parking sensors packed up, solid beeping when in reverse. At the time didn't want to replace them, local independent 'disconnected' them for me. Have now moved house and wondering how this was accomplished (I am no expert...), as I wanted to double check that this isn't linked to a (perhaps v. common) problem I have been experiencing with loss of interior lighting (earlier post from late nov/early dec). Presuming that Is there a fuse that can be removed? have looked at the fuse box diagrams in the manual, nothing for rear parking sensors. many thanks!
  5. thanks for the replies the car is well out of warranty (2002 reg) and in any case second hand. The rep I spoke to indicated that they would look at a contribution request either submitted individually or through a dealership. In the latter case if you had a full service history, esp. at the same dealership, this would help. In my case I have actively avoided dealerships! The symptoms are - interior lights are out (the ones next to the rear view mirror), as well as footwell and any door lights. as a footnote, the lights went out about the same time that my old mechanic (I now moved house) disconnected faulty rear parking sensors. I have tried to replace/change the fuse for the sensors to see if that might be the problem but couldn't work that out even with the help of the fuse box diagram...duhhh
  6. hello, I think I have a well-recognised problem on this forum - water leaking in under the pollen filter, causing damage to the electrics in the left door. The Superb I have is out of warranty - having called Skoda customer services they tell me that they might offer a contribution to the repair, depending in part on my customer loyalty profile. Anyway have an idea what sort of charge this work will come to, and what in practice skoda might chip in? thanks!
  7. Hello all, grateful for some advice - was told by the garage that they had noticed some 'vibrations' around 2500rpm and that one of the gearbox mounts needs replaced. On inspection I saw that the gearbox mount (rubber) on the RHS has one of two screws missing, or more correctly, the base of the original screw has been 'torqued' in, and the head of the screw has come away (shoddy workmanship by another garage). any views on whether this really needs replacing?
  8. Hi there, I need to replace the entire front grill on my superb - can anyone recommend any decent skoda parts dealers? It's a job it looks like I can do myself... Something online would be good, but as long as they can deliver that's the main thing. Thanks
  9. Hi everyone, I have a Skoda Superb - need the ball bearings changed on both wheels. My nearest dealer is Skoda Malborough in Isleworth but wondering if Briskodians can recommend a decent independent garage that can do this for a more down to earth price? Also, wonder if I will be doing myself a favour by getting the parts online first? (I have been told what I need...) Many thanks for your help!
  10. Hi can anyone recommend any independent garages or dealerships in Brussels, Belgium where I can get my Skoda Superb serviced in a trustworthy and fairly priced manner?! Many thanks to all!
  11. Hi there - grateful for any advice of late I have noticed that the temperature gauge on my superb has started to take slightly longer to get up to the usual mid-range reading (5-10min). am I imagining things or can this be a problem? am slightly worried it's related to a nasty ramp I had to climb on a cold-started engine...
  12. thanks everyone - I think I have the confidence I need to give it a go..
  13. thanks for these tips. so let me get this straight. I may need an impact driver. what could I use to chip the disc? anything other tools I might need (apart from the usual wheel changing bits). I am not the world's most accomplished mechanic hence the questions.
  14. My superb has clocked up 57k and the front discs need to be replaced. Have been quoted £122 at national tyre but fancy having a go myself. could anyone give me some guidance? have been following the thread for the rear pads but not sure how much of this is applicable. many thanks!
