  1. Possibly a daft question!! But how do you know which version you've got loaded on a Columbus?? I have some issues that it won't work with my iPhone 5S (iOS 8.1). It reads the phone when connected but then won't play music. The sat nav has also frozen a couple of times and i've had to power the unit down to get it back working. Haven't had chance get back to the dealers yet either.
  2. After a hetic morning, my new TDI vRS has been collected and has ventured out onto the roads for the first time. Firstly, a massive, big up to Derek Slack Motors, who have been brilliant throughout. So, first impressions... ... It looks the dogs *ahem* (pictures to follow). Seriously though a massive step up from my previous Blackline DSG. The build quality is streets ahead of the mk2 in all senses. From opening and closing the doors (a more satisfying clunk) to the interior, which feels more tactile as well as being better put together. Its certainly on a par with mates' 320d BMW's (60 & 62 plates). The Columbus unit is great and very intuitive. It works well with my iPhone 5S both on Bluetooth and playing music via the USB port. Track artwork displays well but still have the video function to try out. The headlights are great especially the adaptive function that moves with the steering, just need a willing volunteer (beer tokens available) to code me HBA!! I was sceptical about the Lane Assist but am growing to quite like it. I seem to find that it doesn't do a great deal for me, but does occasionally 'help' during the rare momentary lapses ( I'm sure we all have whether we admit to them or not!!). Even when changing lanes (empty motorway) and not using the indicator the resistance it provides is not to bad and possibly serves as an extra nod to the driver to re-check/be aware. The main area though is the improvement in the DSG box over my previous Mk2 Blackline. Whilst the mk2's DSG box was great, I always felt it was a touch clunky. However, the new DSG box is streets ahead in terms of smoothness, when it wants to change gear and the new gear stick is a welcome change (well done Skoda for coming to this century!) The modes, whilst not fully explored are quite good. I like the Eco mode on good A-roads, dual carriageways and motorways but found the coast function a bit of a pain in 30-40mph areas where I'd normally rely on a bit of engine braking to slow me whilst going down hill. Maybe something to get use to, but does anyone else feel the same? The normal mode is, well... ...normal and the sport mode is strangely addictive. I like the daft noise generator at low speed round the town but on the motorway it is a bit loud ( I even May have to agree with the other half on this one ) Also, my dealer has allegedly managed to activate the LED number plate bulbs for me during the PDI. I'll update the post once I've had a chance to fit mine!! A few questions that I'd appreciate some advice on though: 1. I don't seem to have coming home lights on, and there is no option for these in the Columbus screens is this normal? 2. I was under the impression that the Columbus screen would display the cars 'climatic' status when it was altered. I.e. Temp, fan speed, a/c on, heat seats, ventilationmode, etc. changed. Is this the case or not? 3. My radio stations aren't displayimg the logos. Is this a time thing or do I have to upload them or similar? Thanks in advance for the replies Tim. PS VCDS programmers wanted for HBA, traffic sign display and DRL configurations please. Beer/wine tokens available
  3. I have Columbus fitted, so have the aerial etc. Is it a case of just a coding mod? or does it require the bluetooth antenna/loop thing to be installed as well?? Does anyone have any part numbers for this/experience of whether the wiring is installed???
  4. What even with the 'wrapped white' look?? Have you enabled the rain closing on yours? (I wondered if it was enabled already because of the sunroof?)
  5. It's arrived! Called in the dealer this afternoon to sort the paperwork out and managed to have a butchers at it prior to the PDI being finished First impressions are the sunroof makes the cabin amazingly light and airy in comparison to the standard non-sunroof car, as well as he Columbus being streets ahead of the Amundsen fitted to my soon to be ex-Blackline! The build quality is also far superior to that of the Mk2's I've had as well. Now super excited for Wednesday morning!, Initial pics below with more to follow...
  6. My new motors been confirmed as delivered to the UK (Port of Tyne), so should be with us anytime soon! I've ordered a Black vRS Hatch Diesel DSG with Sunroof, Columbus, Heated Seats and Black Pack. However, I have a few queries that I wondered if you guys can help with?? 1. Will my existing Thule roof bars from my Mk2 FL vRS fit my new Octy? Has anyone tried yet?? 2. Whilst I need a new spare wheel (great post on this already) I assume my tools will be suitable for the new motor! 3. What are the best VCDS mods for my car? I know HBA, Video In Motion (VIM) & the light mods (DRL/Indicators and LED Number Plate lights) are all great, but what else can I get? 4. Is rain closing any good, or is it fitted as standard seen as I have a sunroof? 5. What mods/configuration can the dealer do during the PDI? (I currently have rear lights activated with DRL's, LED number plate lights and bluetooth enabled on my current Blackline - done by the dealer during the PDI). Thanks in advance. Tim.
  7. Is there no 17" steels in the VAG range? For example VW Transporter or Caddy?
  8. Agree with most of the points but I find if I want to drive quickly than the manual mode and paddles are the best option. Can you get a 'remap' for the DSG?
  9. Oem gti 18" space saver? Do tell more including part nos. BTW new car looks awesome.
  10. What's the difference in the settings then and can this be changed via VCDS on 2012 Blackline.
  11. Try citizens advice bureau. I would have thought you could argue that it wasn't fit for purpose.
  12. Great topic and v interesting reading. I'm on my second Octy Diesel vRS and a DSG this time which I cant believe I hadnt discovered sooner!! As for The focus, i've had numerous 1.6-2.0 diesels in both the current shape and the previous. The current shape one is a revelation to drive on a twisty road as the chassis is great and inspires confidence. Definiately one that VAG could learn from. The engines however are poor in comparison to the VAG and BMW equivalent. A good spell in the 116d will show how economical this class of engine should be (but after all it is a 2.0L - looks like they're cheating!). The VAG 1.6D offering is also much more economical (in Seat Leon) than the Focus and feels more responsive/quicker. As for seating, I personally can never get comfy in the Focus but I know other people who say that about BMW, VW, Audi, Skoda etc etc! Gadget wise, the Focus comes with lots in it but it isn't often the best quality. The current Focus Bluetooth music streaming quality is really poor, but the sound system in general is on a par to the Octy (however the new Blackline is much better than the 59 Plate??? - something to do with the Amundsen??) As for reliability i've had 3 Focus' (2 current and 1 previous shape) breakdown on me and a Seat Leon 1.6D once. All new-ish hire cars (within 2 years old) as well. The Octy or previous Fabia have never ever faltered with minor visits to the dealership for the infamous 'whistling' on both Octy's, loose stiching on my steering wheel (last octy) and a rattle on the drivers door trim on the new Blackline which has been sorted out today. Perfect customer service from Sales, Service and Bodyshop Repairs (after some numpty bumped into the back of me) from Skoda (much better than BMW/Mini). Sorry for War & Peace PS The Focus in Black with that wheel combo looks ACE, shame Black's a bar steward to keep looking 100%!!
