  1. Hi All. 2006 Fabia Tdi. Recently car locks itself when opening or closing the n/s front door (has done it on the o/s front before too). Now, it even locks itself when I'm driving down the road. It will open up if I use the inner door button or key fob but I have been locked out when Ive forgotten to take the keys with me when exiting the car! Local garage found a wire had "chaffed" & re-soldered it & seemed ok for a while but surely this can't be just a loose/frayed wire if this happens when driving along too & not opening the door. Apparently this wouldnt show up on a fault reader & cant afford "trial & error" fixing. Any help would be awesome! Thanks folks 👍
  2. Thanks for the reply Wino. Called into the dealers today & with some discount the flap motor is £135 +1hour to fit so looking at just over £200. Although that isn't "silly money" I've decided to ask them to unplug the motor when the flap is open as tbh I rarely use the re-circ anyway so can't justify the amount to replace it. I don't think they need to "wedge" it open as once unplugged in the open position it can't close again without the motor....apparently?
  3. I should add that the re-circulated air issue is intermittant...
  4. Hi folks, having a few heater problems with my '06 Tdi & thanks for reading in advance... Last week I found I wasn't able to re-circulate the air in the car, either the light turned on but quickly turned off or the opposite & stayed on causing me to steam up. Also when I turned on the ignition you would see the re-circulation button light flicker very briefly. I assumed it might be the re-circulation flap motor but then found that when I pressed the button the air con would come on too (& stay on) so I then assumed it was probably the heater controls itself. I found one online (see pic) after being quoted nearly £300 from a main dealer & they fitted it which seems to have cured the air con staying on but not so the re-circulated air issue. Lastly & I'm not sure if its just me but it sometimes seems that the heater sometimes needs to be turned right round to 26 degrees before you feel hot air then turned back to where you actually want it but recently being so hot in the car I wasn't sure if it only pushes out hot air that is above the ambient temp inside the car??? I take it it will be the flap motor that will cure the re-circulation issue now? & if so are the motors themselves all the same for all MK1 Fabias? (see pic) Would a faulty flap motor show up on plugging it in at the main dealers?
  5. I have an '06 1.4tdi & on viewing the mpg display I see figures of 77.5mpg at times (average not current) & wanted to know just how optimistic the cars computer is. Maybe it is very accurate & I'm very light footed lol :wonder:
  6. Thanks guys, I must admit I do only notice it when stood still anyway so whats been said makes sense. Cheers
  7. Any ideas? I'd leave things well alone if I thought it wouldnt get any worse, but if theres something simple & fairly cheap that I could do to cut the chances of anything getting worse then I'm open to suggestions
  8. My p/s works fine (touch wood) but I do notice the headlights flickering a bit when I turn the steering wheel? Its nothing major but is it something I should look into or sort out before it gets worse? I had the batt checked last week & it has a decent amount of power in it & the alternator is putting over 14v in when at idle. What do you think I should do, leave alone or will it be something fairly simple & cheap to rectify before anything more sinister occurs? Ps. I'm not hugely mechanically minded so please don't baffle me with science
  9. Still haven't had the courage to pull off the tape sealing the windows & pouring water down to see if its worked or not :peek: lol
  10. This may be a daft question, but once youve managed to seal the door carrier successfully around the edges I assume all the water that makes its way inside should only exit through the drain holes provided? I mean that was the original plan when the car was built right?
  11. Hmm, so if it's "delaminating" does that mean it's actually falling apart slowly? :S I'm sure the mpg reading I had on disply was the current mpg, not average mpg & as for the 240mpg above, well I'd love to see that a reality haha So obviously its not accurate at all then.
  12. Hi all, does anyone know why this is occuring around the edge of the boot glass on my 06 Fabia? (see pics below) I know I tend to have to shut the boot with a little bit of a slam but surely that shouldn't cause that, or would it? If it's the adhesive holding the glass in place is it likely to become loose or let water in? (not that it is loose or letting water in atm) Also, Im assuming the "current mpg" reading using the onboard display is far from accurate? :wonder: Mine was reading up to 195mpg at one point while taking it easy on a nice leisurely run & when I put my foot down it starts to appear a lot more realistic at 50-60mpg? I was told its very sensitive & relies on throttle pressure but Im not 100% convinced because on a nice 50mph run along with keeping my right foot steady it was still showing over 100mpg.......I wish Thanks Boot pics
  13. 50? Oh dear, maybe I should have gone with a Ford
