  1. Just a quick note to say that the bulbs were indeed the correct ones and the replacement was much easier than anticipated because it only took a couple of minutes. Thanks again to vc-10 and wirer for making it so simple for me. 😀
  2. Hi! I know it's a few years down the line since the above posts but I've just followed vc-10 and wirer's (thank you guys!) very helpful guide on changing the bulbs on the Skoda Rapid's side indicator repeater lamps in the door mirrors. The bulb stated by Saffron Skoda above is a WY5W for the Repeater but does this signify that it's an orange bulb? Basically, because Halfords said they didn't stock them, I ordered the bulbs from Amazon Prime UK on Bank Holiday Monday at 5.41pm (they arrived this morning) but before I pull a friend's Rapid door mirror apart, did I actually order the correct bulbs? Are they indeed the same ones used in a Fabia Mk 3 as vc-10 asserts? Thank you. 3. My Citigo will be 5 years old on May 3rd and it's done less than 4,500 miles. It cost me over £12k when new in 2013 and is in immaculate condition plus it's always been kept in a garage too. I believe it's now worth about £4,500 in a trade-in. I can't really believe that VAG could have designed an engine that needs a new cambelt after only 5 years. According to the website of official Skoda dealers, Jardine Motors Group trading as Lancaster, a replacement cambelt (no water pump mentioned) costs £499. It's not even shown on the official Skoda UK website where it states "Excludes Citigo" with no mention of an actual Citigo cambelt replacement cost. I'd also have to pay £159 for an Interim Service plus £52 for a Brake Fluid change plus the cost of an MOT around May 3rd. This little lot would come to nearly £765 for a car that's now worth sweeties!! I'm disgusted to say the least. A couple of days ago, I even received a large official Skoda postcard (both sides shown below) invitation from a local Skoda dealer to "Book your cambelt replacement now." It must be a very good money spinner for them because most of the £499 charge is obviously for labour and I fear that we're all being ripped off. I wonder what "We thought we'd remind you to book in for one of our ŠKODA- trained technicians to have a look" actually means? I can't imagine that the cambelt can actually be "looked at" or inspected, to verify whether it needs to be changed or not? I don't know if I'm allowed to add links to other forums or not but there's an interesting discussion on this very subject on the VW up! forum here:- The dreaded cam belt debate!
  4. As a matter of interest, my Citigo has a steel spare wheel which has a 165/70 x 14" tyre and according to an online calculator this has a diameter of 23.1 inches. Using the same calculator, your 195/55 x 15" tyre has a diameter of 23.4" so, had your spare wheel been a fit for the Citigo, it would surely have fitted into the wheel well. End of useless information.
  5. Your wife's Citigo wheels will only have 4x stud holes but the Fabia MK2 1.4TSI VRS wheels have 5x stud holes?
  6. Wow 33q, good tip and that should certainly make it just back into shape very smartly! I'm follicly challenged so don't possess a hair dryer but I daresay I could borrow one of those electric paint strippers, being careful not to hold it too near.
  7. Thank you all for your very helpful suggestions as I had only vaguely heard of ERWIN before. I thought he was just some bloke who'd photocopied the manuals and posted them online or something. The YouTube video that spiz kindly posted from 10,500 miles away on the other side of the world is fantastic and the first minute showed me all I needed to know. :sun: Thank you again!
  8. What is involved in removing the rear bumper of a Skoda Rapid Sport (not the Spaceback)? I've searched for a diagram of the bolt locations etc but failed miserably. I have a friend who's car has a dent in the nearside corner and it looks like it would easily push/pop out with a hefty weight on it whilst resting on a sleeping bag or a thick carpet. The idea might be to pour boiling water on the bumper's inside to help ease the situation but perhaps this might be a complete no-no? Any ideas gratefully received. Thank you.
  9. The old LED DRLs were indeed rather ugly but I believe the new ones are less so? I think they look pleasingly 'industrial" and "interesting" in the same vein as Dyson vacuum cleaners, for example. However, I didn't fit them for their looks, I fitted them because they are much brighter than the original LEDs as these new ones are CREE technology. I forgot to say that they are completely plug & play unlike some other that I ordered from another company and had to send back.
  10. In March I bought these from HIDS-Direct (R580 W21/5W White 60W Cree-XBD SMD 12*5W Canbus) and very pleased with their whiteness and brightness. Mind you, at £18.55 EACH when I bought them, I must have been mad!!
  11. JimmyR says, If it can be "checked at 160,000 miles and assessed and replaced if required" why can't the same assessment happen at 5 years or 10 years or at 7,000 miles or 15,000 miles etc? As shown in the attachment, Skoda Fixed Price Maintenance charge is £335 for a cambelt change and £435 for cambelt with water pump. I'm not sure if that just means a water pump AND belt or just the pump belt itself. * Includes cambelt, tensioners and rollers as required. Prices offered in our Fixed price servicing offer are the maximum selling prices. ŠKODA Authorised Repairers are free to offer prices lower than this offer. ============================================================================================================================ From… Skoda UK Customer Services (Email received today, Saturday 27th August 2016) Subject: SD-2016/08-****** Re: ŠKODA Citigo Elegance Dear JimmyR Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the recommended interval for changing the timing belt on your vehicle. Please accept my apologies for the delay in our response. I have discussed your query with our Technical Support Team. They have confirmed that the ŠKODA UK recommendation for the timing belt change interval on your vehicle is every five years, or it needs to be checked at 160,000 miles and assessed and replaced if required, whichever comes first. I hope this information proves useful. If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us on the number below. Thank you for contacting ŠKODA UK. 12. So, what's the final verdict after two and a half years? Is Skoda Assist included with the Skoda Extended warranty or is it not? Who has the proof in writing or on any documentation from Skoda UK?
  13. My car was new on May 3rd 2013 and as you can see from the attachment, the tax only runs till the end of April because it will become untaxed on May 1st. Hope this helps?
  14. Yes, I'm in the same situation as Owens because my Skoda Citgo was brand new on May 3rd 2013 and I took out the additional 2 Year Skoda Extended Warranty when I bought the car. I was very pleased to have read in the Skoda Citigo Forums on Briskoda that Skoda Assist would also be extended along with the extended Skoda warranty. I was delighted to know that my vehicle was covered for almost everything till May 2018. I was a little worried when I contacted Skoda UK Customer Services and received the email printed below. We can also note that it was originally the RAC that provided the Skoda Assist but now it's the AA. I was only alerted when I received a communication from "Skoda UK with the AA" inviting me to spend £145 to extend the Skoda Assist for another two years. 15. There are all sorts of people who post on forums and I certainly don't wish to become either the Beevee or shakotanVIP who are regularly at each other's throats on the WW up! forums. I shall now go back to my sad daily business after having been well and truly slapped down. :S
