  1. Thanks a lot. That's really helpful. Good luck with the new car.
  2. Thanks for this! Well I think I will wait to see how it all pans out for you before diving in myself then! Please do let us know how you get on.
  3. Yeh I tried the electrical reset to no joy. So went down the surgical route and saved the CDs. As you can see the CD changer is no longer viable! Fortunately the SD card still works.
  4. One more question on this - is it compatible with maxidot? For example on my Bolero i can see what's playing on the stereo via the maxidot screen and well as skip tracks via the indicator stalk.
  5. Thanks very much. Mine is a 2011 FL Octavia. Looks like this will do nicely.
  6. Thanks for the update and the tip! I notice that in some images of this unit there is a mini SD and USB slot in the front but in others, including the main product image there isn't! Also the various buttons around the screen are different depending on which images you look at. What does the actual unit have on the front?
  7. A few months in from the original installation, how is this unit holding up for you? Looks like I need to replace my Bolero and this appears to be one of the more affordable solutions!
  8. Thank you very much. This is excellent advice. I shall report back my progress. Although I think I'm going to have to put aside a reasonably amount of time!
  9. Thanks for this Dylan. Looks like there may be some patience and determination required for this one! I'll see if Google translate can get its head around the Chinese instructions!
  10. The CD player in my Bolero has eaten up 6 CDs and won't give them back. I think something must have gone wrong with the mechanism inside the unit. Has anybody got experience with this? I'm wondering if I can easily take the Bolero apart and remove the CDs. Quite happy not to use the CD function again as the SD card works perfectly but I'd like the CDs back! Thanks!
  11. Thanks for this Onza. It's got me thinking. My 2011 TSI has audible ticking on startup / idle when stood outside the car (I can't here it in the cabin). It's done 37,000 miles. I wonder if I ought to take it to my local Skoda to at least register that it may be a concern.
  12. That's great news. And gives me a little more faith for if/when it happens to me. I've got the car care plan extended warranty taking me up till June and then I'll be looking to extend that regardless of the possibility that the warranty might exclude this known fault.
  13. Mine rolled out of a parking space that was on a hill. There was a car either side of me in their bays. If my wheels were turned it would have rolled into one or both of the cars next to it! In this situation it's leave it in gear or go find another parking space!
  14. My TSI VRS rolled out of a parking bay last year. So it's always left in gear now when I park on the slightest incline.
  15. 2011 tsi VRS estate. Nothing to report so far. 25k miles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. (VRS only) To this day I am baffled by this. No lights on = bright DRLS. Sidelights = dimmed DRLS + rear lights. Oddness. What to choose? Never use the sidelights setting as a result.
  17. I know what you mean about the problem at night! It's also a real hazard at dusk when the car behind hasn't put on any lights! Pretty invisible.
  18. I intend to keep the car until it is no longer financially viable. Perfect vehicle! Bit of a concern about the tensioner but that's it. Regular servicing may keep the car healthier. I'm not worried about the cost so much.
  19. I bought it second hand in August with 13,500 on the clock. So in five months I've done around 6000 miles. Probably do around 12,000 a year. Fixed servicing is my preference without a doubt. The oil is filthy!
  20. My 2011 Tsi VRS is on a variable service regime. I'd prefer that it were on a fixed one. It's clocked up just over 19,000 miles now. Wondering if I should book it in for the next (major) service early and switch to a fixed plan rather than wait for the next variable slot. Any thoughts on this?
  21. Just took the radio out and routed the cable down the side and pushed it back in. Ran the wire all the way to the fuse box. But I didn't like it like that as it pushed the metal trim out a bit.
