car tax

Featured Replies

scraped a car over 12 months ago, got a letter on saturday saying its not taxed and £80 fine . I sent off the slip from the log book to say it was scrapped but unaware to me till now i was meant to have recieved a letter back to say it was scrapped from the DVLA. They want this letter as proof i have scrapped it otherwise its tough and i have to pay £80. any ideas of a way around this??

I think the logbook does state to contact them immediately if you do not receive a letter within a certain amount of time. The amount of times this pops up on forums I don't think I'll be sending anything this important to DVLA without it being sent recorded delivery. I think it's just another of their money making scams unfortunately.

once again, BUGGER! looks like alot of these slips have gone "missing" then we get charged for it. best pay the £40 asap but im not happy about it.

Have you tried writing or calling them to explain? If you can show that lots of other people have also had this problem, then they may waive the fine.

Try challenging it first. They obviously figure that most people will just pay up.

have you got a receipt from scrapping the car? or maybe try to get something off the people who picked it up?

if you have proof that way the car was sold on then surely you can use that to back up your claim.

dont do what a friend did and said the car was gone for over a year and aparently his car shoudl still be seen on google maps on his driveway! lol!!
