Front Speakers L&K

Featured Replies

Hi

I have got some Pioneer TS-G1746 speakers wihich are the right size but the connections are different. There seems to be 4 cables on the original door speaker which I assume is a link that goes to the tweeter by the wing mirror. Can anyone tell me how to wire up these Pioneers without blowing the original tweeters etc. ie. is there a connector adaptor available, if so where can I buy one.

Do the infinity 652i's plug straight in or are they the same as the Pioneers.

Cheers Will

What you need to do is either:

a) get the adapters from Halfords to fit on your speakers.

or

B) cut off the connectors from the cables; pair up like for like (+ve and -ve) and fit new spade connectors. Should require one small spade (female) and one medium spade (female) connector.

I think someone already tried the adapters but got a funny sound. Rob had his fitted by Halfords IIRC but I don't know if they used the adapters.

Replacing with the connectors is simple and really should take you more than 30 minutes for both sides.

For more details seach for the thread about "front speakers".

Sorted!

Cheers.

Adrian.

p.s Infinitys have just 2 connectors like your Pioneers.

Cheers Adrian.

I think cutting the cable is the best bet. I wasn't sure wheather this would surge the tweeter with unwanted frequencies!

I got the Pioneers of a mate but I was going to buy infinity's do you know if these are on par with the infinity's or not (I will be using the standard symphony head unit). If anyone has had any experience with pioneers comments would be useful before I pay for them.

Cheers

Don't know how the Pioneers compare with the Infinitys I'm afraid.

Apparently the 2 pairs of cables have nothing to do with the standard tweeters at all so, no worries to that end.

The Infinitys make a big difference with the Symphony HU; none of that bass buzz.

I will install the Pioneers and let you know what I think. If they are any good I will probably upgrade the rears too!!

Yeah, connect it as Adrian said - I think all aftermarket speakers have just 2

terminals...

I have Infinity's in the front and the 13cm Pioneers in the rear (with the rear

tweeters disabled). I'd say the Infinity's are better speakers, but it comes

down to what you use them for. The Infinity's are great for anything

requiring strong trebles and mids, but for bass they don't hit those low

frequencies as well as the Pioneers. I'd say the Pioneers are definitely

"dance" speakers.

Might be different if you're putting them in the front though :D

Either way, they'll be a lot better than the standard and are

fantastic value for money!

Fitted the Pioneers at the weekend. No real big improvement on the sound slightly more bass but nothing to write home about. I suppose you could say it sounded slightly crisper. Wired them up ok thanks to your tips, cheers...

Looks like I might have to get a new head unit after all.

Will

Hmm...that's a shame.

Do you find that you can have them much louder than the standard speakers

without distortion though?

Rob.

I must admit it seems that distortion has been reduced. My freind has a golf Gti standard spec and his sound sytem has an amasing sound for stock equipment. Shame Skoda aren't quite there in the audio front.

Will

But on the other hand, a friend of mine has a Golf SE that's newer and more

expensive than my Skoda, and that doesn't even have a CD player! :D

Fair comment. But I have a L&K which is loaded with all the extras etc. You would think that they might put in a half decent head unit/speakers.

Will

I thought the problem was they *had* only put a half decent system in! ;)

I think it might come down to what kind of music you listen to - like I said,

IMHO the Pioneers are top dance speakers, but for anything else the

Infinity's would probably have been a better option...

Rob.

Agree with Rob with regards to the type of music for the Infinitys; dance music is not their forte.....dam!

I think also although changing the speakers/HU will improve sound quality, ultimately it is the environment that the speakers are in that is the limiting factor. I think the Golf has a much deeper speaker enclosure in the front doors.

Would be interesting to see the outcome if somone did custom speakers pods.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Will - another thought...

Do you have "loudness" switched on? Not a big fan of using it myself as it's not a very

hi-fi thing to do, but as in-car hi-fi is a bit of a contradiction in terms, I use it as it

makes it sound richer... :D

Rob.

Yes got that on. Looks like a new head unit is the only option.

Thanks guys
