Requirements for 18

Featured Replies

Hi!

I recently moved to the UK and bought a Skoda Octavia I vRS estate with the standard 16 inch alloys on it. :( Now I´d like to replace them by 18 inch wheels.

Therefore I have some questions:

Which dimensions fit?

Do I have to pass a MOT on the new wheels?

Do I have to tell my insurance?

Are there any requirements if I want to change the wheelsize?

Could you please help me with possible 18 inch dimensions and the UK regulation as well.

Thanks a lot and hope to hear a lot of opinions soon. :)

Cheers!

Tom

Up to 8 x 18" no lower than ET35 and you should be fine.

MOT will have no problems providing all tyres are suitable and legal.

Yes you will have to tell your insurance, shouldnt incur to much of a charge though

Wheels need to be 5 x 100 pcd, 57.1mm centre bore (or have the correct spigot rings), No less i would say than ET35. Anthing up to 8" wide should be fine, 225/40 18 tyres ideal and pretty common.

And to wet your appitite....

Hope you didn't put 18" wheels on! The Mk 1 vRS estate was fitted with 16" wheels (as opposed to 17" for the hatch) because the wheel arch space was smaller than that of the hatch. Can't remember why but that was the Skoda dealer's response when I was in the market for a Mk1 back in 2003.

Not true - the 16s were to improve the handling because the hatch has an extra brace behind the rear seats.
