Gearbox oil filler location.

Featured Replies

Now then, my gearbox feels really sticky and after reading a few posts they confirmed what i thought, gearbox oil needs replacing or topping up, is it something i could do easily or is it a Skoda job, if so how much am i looking at, i do eventually want to be able to service a vehicle fully myself apart from the obvious cam belts etc, any advice would be brilliant, cheers Vinny.

What car are we talking about Vinny?

Hello m8, octavia vrs mk1. Vinny.

The filler hole is on the front of the box, it's a bit of a sod to get to... I would recommend a piece of hose on the end of the oil bottle to help you get it in the box and not on the floor.

Cheers Phil, i have just spoke to a vw mech and hes advised that it prob wont be oil as this sticky gear situ happened literally overnight, its defo not the clutch or box as theres no slipping and altho hard to find the gears they will select once pushed in the right direction/not jumping etc. he said that its more likely to be the Linkages and quoted abt £60, does that all sound abt right, thanx again, Vin.

I'm no expert, but have you tried adjusting the linkage?

I've just noticed mines starting to get a little notchy going in to gears. Feels kind of like i need to push the stick a little harder before it notches in. Sort of as if i havn't pushed the clutch in enough. I have no clutch slip either.

I wonder if were talking about the same thing?
