Fabia 1.2 Classic Mods and upgrades

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum so sorry if im asking questions thats been asked any times before

I've had my Fabia for over a year and want to start "improving it" and was wondering what options i have for a 1.2 classic? Is there anything i can do to improve the speed and performance or even improve the MPG?

Also where would be the best place to get some decent speakers or rear speakers?

Thanks for any help :)

Hi :wavey:,

I dont think there's much you can do to improve the performance. Its possible that different tyres, air filter and fully synthetic oil may make it more economical and marginally smoother. If your after better performance your probably better saving up for something with a bigger engine.

There are little things you could do such as fitting the draw that fits under the stereo, fitting dampend grab handles, may be able to fit the chrome interior door handles etc. Also upgrading headlight bulbs and fitting flat blade wipers. All cosmetic rather than performance.

Also make sure you declare things such as alloys etc to your insurance.

As discussed above, the 1.2 Classic is very much the base model. If you happen to particularly like the Fabia then you'd be better off saving up for a p/x to a 1.4 16v petrol or 1.9 tdi/vrs diesel and/or a higher trim level.

Thanks for the replys, I will have to look at upgrading but just looking at what i can do to it for now :)

Been having a quick look at ebay and a couple of things caught my eye:

Would anyone know if they are any good and if they would be worth getting? The vortex thing seems quite interesting. And could anyone give me an idea what a new air filter could achieve?

Also do you know where could i get some rear and maybe door speakers ?

If I was you (?!?), I'd give them all a miss - I would not think you'd feel any benefit from this lot - other than your wallet getting lighter plus maybe increased fuel consumption from using the resistor "mod". You'd be better sticking your money in your "next car" piggy bank! If the car nneds a new air filter then buy one from VAG or ECP or GSF etc - but keep it as original.

Those "resisitor mods" all say they increase the mpg though? or is that just a lie to lure you in :P

I was of the understanding that all these resistor mods do is modify the temperature data - car thinks that its colder than it is so hands over more fuel - more fuel means dropped economy (I think).

Edited, or maybe its the air flow signal data that gets modified - but same effect.

Ahh if thats the case i'll give that a miss

Have you got any recommendation on that vortex filter?

^ Yes, I'd recommend you dont buy one

The same question I wanted to ask myself as I've got the same car but in 'Spirit' trim. Not much you can do about the engine performance.Better to stick with oem filters I've been toying with the idea having 'sport one' but just hassle no gain.I have 15" steelies. For example you can have Lcr splitte and window tint as an optical mod.I'd leave the interior as it is maybe lovely seat covers. As the parts concerned by the time they're worn out I'd replace them with uprated ones like Cupra,Powerflex bushes, etc.I'm fan TD Pro Race 1&2's could be worth it instead of steelies 15" weighs only 6.4kgs.This is my 2 cents.

Do what paddy joe says! i basically did that, fitted golf mk4 steelies 15inch and put on some toyo proxies, yeah it does look **** and people say err steelies. But i have a much better handling car and i have the option of putting trims back on if i like. Cost me £20 for the steelies without tyres and £160 for 195/45/15 proxies best ive had so far.
