twin door opening routine

Featured Replies

heres and interesting one - presumably the operation of the twindoor mechanism involves some input from the ECU due to the flashing rear light etc etc. do you reckon its possible to reprogram the car so that it can be a hatchback by default - in that when you press the open boot button on the car the whole rear opens rather than haivng to press the second button and wait then press the main button ? would also be cool if the remote could be set up to opens the twindoor rather than just the boot lid. wishdful thinking or technically possible ?

At this moment it cannot be opened as a hatch as a default, this is one of the first things I asked when I went to the dealer launch.

I was told by a salesman on Saturday when I was investigating the rear opening arrangement that if you slap the hatchback down , as I would on my Octy , then the rear screen could smash ..... a slight downside maybe

While I haven't been able to replicate this myself, I can see this being true. Probably why all the models have the soft close boot so you don't have to slam it down.

very mercedes like.their doors does the same thing

There's no need to slam the door, just lower it and the catch automatically closes the tailgate.

If you slam the hatch too hard on an Octy, you will break the microswitch which controls the boot lights. Then, because it thinks that the hatch is still open, you will find that your wiper and washer doesn't work and the maxidot display will show boot open permenantly!

Don't slam! :orb_no_no

if you slam the boot too hard then it is a noted fact the back window will break be warned.............

Yep in my local dealership there is a little sign saying don't slam - auto-close !

Begs the question why the glass is frameless then, given that the actual twindoor mechanism in in the join.

Granted, it looks very nice, but no real necessity as far as I can see for it to be designed that way, given that every other hatchback I've seen has a frame round the rear window

Almost every test that I`ve read tells that it`s too time-consuming when you have to push 2 buttons in order to get the big boot open. I don`t understand this. Are people today so busy that they don`t have 5 (or less...) extra-seconds to spare ?

In my opinion, people don`t have any REAL problems if this is a problem...:finger:

Ah, but I bet you rock in your seat when a web page takes more than half a second to open, when you'd have been happy to go away and make a cup of tea while a page downloaded back in the dial-up days. My limited experience of Human Factors tell me that waiting just isn't in people's make-up these days, and rightly or wrongly, Skoda should have taken this into account. That, or make it so that the hatch button automatically activated the boot button after however long it takes, rather than making you have to press one button then the other.

Trouble is, there a number of "features" of the new Superb designed to make your life easier, so when something doesn't work as people expect (or want), they get picky.

For example, the remote boot opening. It wasn't on the MK I, and I never missed it. Now it's on the MK II, I am amazed at how often I use it, rather than reaching underneath the sill, and pressing the release. The twindoor is kind of similar. I got used to the "squeezing stuff under the sill" scenario with the MK I, even though it was a large boot. Now I've got this cavernous expanse to play with in the MK II, I find the old style one small, and yet I used to take tons of stuff away in the old car, and thought it was brilliant then.

We evolve, and get picky. We're human, go figure :)

here here . i agree. I am sure there is probably a valid technical reason why it is done like this and the designers probably thought "well it only takes a few seconds to open it so we will leave it like that as no-one will mind " !!!
