Kenlowe pre-heater for short runs

Featured Replies

If I'm only going to be doing 3-4 mile runs every morning in the winter in a Fabia VRS, would it be worth me installing one of these kenlow pre-heaters I've read about? :)

Yes. You need the connections though and a safe mains connection. They are pretty expensive. I can't afford one, so have bought a sump heater (£50 from Canada). It sticks onto the sump itself and I've taken the mains connection through the front under the bumper with an industrial mains connector protected by a plastic screw on jar top. How well it works in cold weather I don't know yet, but it tested OK and they seem popular in cold climates. It has been on for about 4 months so seems secure.

Yep, definitely ! :)

My SWMBO only does a short run into work in her Fabia and the heater is not really effective and the engine barely gets up to temperature.

It's getting to that time of year again when having both a Kenlowe Hotstart and heated seats gives you a nice warm start to your day. :D

Saves on fuel and engine wear as well !

Well worth doing .... CLICKY.

I'm not fussed about demisting, being cold, the only factor I want taken in to consideration is I am wishing to reduce engine wear as much as possible :)

Spend more money on oil, change it more frequently and don't push the car when cold. A decent fully synthetic will provide better protection when cold as it flows better and retains it's protective abilities for longer even towards the end of its life due to a better shear resistance. For this country the standard 5w40 is fine. ;)
