Need Suspension Explaining to me Help !

Featured Replies

Sorry to sound thick but I've no mechanical experience (Not to say I'm not capable mind) so I dont have a clue.

What is the difference from coilovers to dampers ??? I know what springs are obviously though lol

Just want to know cos im after dropping my baby down as shes sitting on standard suspension with spider 17's.

Is it worth while fitting those Cupra bush thingys too ??? What do they do etc ???

Simply. Coilovers have adjustable spring platforms so you can adjust the height where normal dampers/springs do not. Coilovers tend to alow vast range of height adjustment.

What about those Cupra bush things that everybodys raving on about ???

They are just the bearings between the chassis and the suspension components. They are solid on the Cupra unlike on the vRS, so last a lot longer. If yours doesn't creak over speedbumps then the bushes are OK for now, but sooner or later they will need to be replaced. They don't have any particular 'performance' benefit, though...

Explain the creaking noise a bit more so I know what to listen for. Thanks mate.

Erm... You'll get a definite creak as you go up the speedbump, and again as you go down the other side. Bit hard to describe the sound, but it's a cross between and old hinge and straining ropes. It's particularly bed when cold and wet too. Don't really know what else to say - if you've not noticed anything like this, you probably don't have it...

Hi

I always say that there is suspension to meet YOUR needs

It would depend on what you are needing

The Cupra bushes are a stronger bush as has been said it is a solid bush compared to the bush that you have as standard

I think it just finnishes off the handling just right

If you let us know what you was wanting for your car we could possibly get you some prices together ;)

Ah Sarah brilliant well according to what people recommend think im after some decent coilovers and some Cupra bushes. I want the car to sit lower and be stiffer in the bends without rolling so much but not sacrifice too much comfort. Any recommendations for specific coilovers are welcome together with prices etc !!!

Dont Cupra bushes give a harsher drive? Like Polybushes?

I've had no probs with my SPAX coiles. However if you want more than a 70mm drop then they arent for you!

Christ only wanna drop it 40mm (50mm Max)

70mm Christ I bet its like November the 5th at night if you go over a speed bump too fast lol.

Ah i did the "only a 45mm drop" thing... then she went down a bit more.... and a bit more... I am convinced lowering is like Pringles... "once u pop etc etc"

Awesome > Fabia (6Y) Hatch, Estate Inc. VRS 3/00-

These are what we have just started dealing with , and for the money , absolutely fantastic

Good quality too

Also do the rear ARB as that will stiffen up the body roll

Cannot reccomend the rear ARB enough , as I had that fitted to my Fabia

The thing is about coilovers , if you fit them over springs and shockers , you will be able to set the ride height at just what you want

The rear ARB we are doing at £90 + VAT at the moment and them coilovers at a fantastic £276.59 + VAT

The Cupra bushes , I had them fitted to my car with the Powerflex fronts and I must admit , I did not notice that much difference in the feel of the suspension , but then I have the front and rear ARB and the Koni STR.T kit
