Boot/Tailgate Squeak

Featured Replies

Hi,

My other wise perfect new Oct has started making a squeak when you close or open the Boot/Tailgate, seems to be at the 90% closed stage or just opened part. I think it coming from the hinges. Have a dog so go to the boot a lot.

What is the best do with it? the hinges with WD40, Silicon Spray and some Skoda spray that dealer only sales...

Thanks,

James

My independent garage uses white grease on the door hinges which I assume is a lithium based product, dont know 100% though. If if was up to me I would use a light oil such as 3 in 1 so it gets into the hinge joint itself. I wouldnt go to the dealer for the oil. Neither would I use WD-40 as it will strip away any existing lubricant/grease that is in the hinge.

My estate makes a squeak when closing it but only if its been left open for a while, I discovered its actually one of the gas struts squeaking and not the hinge.

check its not the nut that holds the gas strut to the body is loose. I got a funny noise for a while on mine and found the nut was really loose and moving around. tightened it up and its been fine since.
