Alpine X100 Radio Reception

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone own an Alpine X100? How’s your radio reception? Mines terrible despite fitted an active aerial adaptor. My factory unit had perfect reception when fitted.

Cheers

Your factory unit had a built in amplifier for the antenna.

I have an X100 and have poor radio reception, but I assumed this was because my antenna is built into my rear screen and has failed

Its a shame because its the only thing that I don't like about it.

Do you not need an antenna adaptor when fitting aftermarket headunits? The adaptor has 2 leads, one is the antenna lead the other is a thin blue wire for connecting to your 'remote on' lead on the h/u.

I was told that an amplifier was built into the roof at the base of the aerial and the aerial active adaptor would allow it to keep functioning and therefore maintain the strength of radio reception. I agree the X100 is a great piece of kit but if the reception cannot not be corrected it is a major flaw and may force me to return the unit as not fit for purpose. Does anybody else know of any other makes that include a built in antenna amplifier?

The active aerial adaptor fitted into the antenna lead and came with the blue cable which was also connected.

On cars with aerials built into the screens is there not a separate booster near the screen? Failing that try the Alpine in another car as see if the reception improves.

Just an update regarding the Radio reception. The poor radio reception from the Alpine unit turned out to be caused by a faulty aerial plug from the car that fitted on to the unit. When handling the unit out of the cage we found that the reception was sometimes good or bad. Fiddling with the plug confirmed the cause of this. Stripped and put a new plug on and the units reception is A+. This is without the active aerial adaptor, as we tried fitting two of these and they kept blowing after being connected up. The sound from the unit is amazing and I can definitely tell the difference. Had an old 60gig 2.5 drive hanging around with I put in the caddy and connected up for listening to MP3's.

Excellent stuff. I did assume it was my car causing my reception problems rather than the unit, because otherwise I love the unit. :)
