Rac & caravans

Featured Replies

When you buy a Skoda they put you with RAC Skoda Assistance. I have been told by them they will not come out to you if your caravan has a punture they only deal with the car. If the car breaks down and has to be transported they will take the van too. Has any one come across this before, if so what did you do.:finger::mad::thumbdwn:

First of all, what is a punture ? I have no idea....

Second, if I understood your message, my opinion is, that the caravan has nothing to do with your car`s warranty and assistance that is included. If the caravan breaks down, it`s the caravan`s warranty that has to cover the costs of repair, or caravan`s insurance. Or then I just didn`t understand this at all (nothing new there...:P)...

I would just say -be thankful that Skoda have changed to the Rac .When I bought Furby ,there was about six month AA cover left .AA suspended my personal cover to let me use Skoda's ,with the agreement that at the end of the Skoda cover ,mine would be re instated .Last week , the front plastic strip at the bottom of the front bumper caught a kerb ,so that all but one end was off .Couldn't find any tools in car to do job so called AA.

First question - membership number -"oh you're membership is suspended" me"but it shoulkd have been automatically re instated " .AA "Oh no sir -that's up to you,and since you're incident is classed as an accident ,we'll only tow you to a garage -at £104 ".Fortunately found large pair of cutters in car .

Week later had chat with RAC salesman - who confirmed the AA policy on assistance after "accidents"-RAC don't do this .Called AA to cancel --found I ' still got six months policy pre paid (and no, they still had not re instated my membership).Next call was to my insurance company to ask about their cover - RAC with home start /breakdown /recovery/onward assistance for £60 - as against £45 for AA breakdown (it's £35 for new customers only:confused:)

So with the new customer mentality in action ,I've decided that they don't need my loyality .

ignore the free RAC and get caravan club red pennant. that is what we do. will take you and your van to your holiday destination nd then get you home again if the car cant be repaired. no other breakdown provider will do this "double journey". have a look at Caravan Talk (Powered by Invision Power Board) its a caravan forum and is very useful

If the caravan has a puncture, can you not just change the wheel? Or am I missing something?

You can off course, but if this is on the hard shoulder of the motorway would you really want to?? Same as with the car really.

On the original topic ... I have the Skoda Assist cover with my Octy but chose to keep on my Caravan Club Mayday cover to cover times when i'm towing or indeed it is a caravan related breakdown. For me the extra cost is worth it for the peace of mind it gives.

Depends which side too.

As already been said, take out Red Pennant from the Caravan Club.

£66 for 15 months cover, don't think that can be beaten by any of the current companies.

I used them when my Jeep blew a gearbox seal on the M25, they took us & the Jeep back to Lincs that night (dropping the Jeep off at the garage en route), stored the 'van undercover overnight at Clacket Lane & delivered it to me the following day as there were no HGV class 1 drivers available on that shift (27'6" twin axle 'van), more than happy with that!
