Wheel Bearing

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I've noticed that when I drive my Fabia recently, the car is generally a bit louder. It doesn't sound like it's the engine, but more like a loud humming/whooshing, like I'm inside a plane - sorry for my very technical explanation .

Occasionally - especially when on the motorway at speed, there seems to be an intermittent squeal, coming from the rear of the car I think.

Does this sound like a wheel bearing that's on it's way out?

Thanks,

McMobile x

Either that or could be a tyre getting noisy.

Thanks Lummox - what do I have to do if a tyre is getting noisy?

I have just replaced the tyres on my Fab VRS and the very slight humming noise has gone.

It sounded just like a wheel bearing.

hmmm sounds like the same problems as I've got. Humming noise coming from the rear. Think its a calliper sticking. Going to try it on new pads as the one on it now are quite low. Hopefully wont be too expensive.

I was told to crank the car up at the back, (make sure you put a brick infront of the front two wheels) let the handbrake off, and spin the wheels. If you can hear a grinding, then it might be a calliper sticking. Worth a try. Thats how a found out where it was coming from.

Mine goes in tomorrow. :( Will let you know anyhow.
