Switched supply for hifi (Felicia)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have just fitted a cd player to my 1997 Felicia using the ISO connectors. However, I have noticed that the Felicia doesn't use a switched supply, so that the radio remains on even when the ignition is switched off. Does anyone have any suggestion for a nearby switched power source I can use to allow the radio to switch off with the ignition. I know I could possibly use the fan supply, which is close to the radio, but I don't want to introduce any electrical interferance from the fan motor. Any suggestions or advice will be very welcome.

Many thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,

can you not connect on the rear of the ignition switch? Most switches now have a contact which is dedicated for the radio etc.It will only supply 12 volts when the key is in the ignition switch.Make sure that any connections you make have a fuse in a fuseholder (normally inline),as some cars do not fuse the ignition circuit for safety.

It would be OK to connect to the fan supply providing it at 12 volts when on,and does not lower with fan settings. You will not get an interference as the radio etc will have suppression built in, and the car battery act like a huge capacitor. Make sure the fan circuit can supply sufficient current taken by the connected items.Normal car radios will be OK (about 5 amps max),but dedicated high power amplifiers will require heavier cable and higher value fusing. These are better connected via the battery terminals.
