Questions on Columbus

Featured Replies

I find the handbook a bit difficult to follow, and I cannot find answers to a couple of points.

How do I turn off the voice directions on the Satnav?

How do I turn off the radio or media player while leaving the map showing?

I would welcome your help.

Hi Billhum

I too have 'issues' with instruction books, I think its a 'man thing'...

To turn the Navigation Voice off:

Press Tone button, select Volume Settings, turn off Navigatioon Announcements.

Im not sure you can turn off the radio etc whilst leaving the navigation active, the simple method would be to turn the volume down.

Hope this helps

Regards

Terry

I find that 'Dynamic' works best.

That way, the satnav only talks if you have deviated from the route it's asking you to follow.

This is great for me, as I like to program in the route to work, so that it gives me traffic information, but don't actually want to hear instructions.

Also, when an instruction is being given, you can use the volume control to adjust only the navigation volume. So, you could set this to zero, if you wanted.

Thanks Bagpuss

I will give dynamic a try, I saw it in the menu but having done 'the man thing' (not read the book) I didn't know what it was so left it alone for now.

so you cant have spoken instructions for a route without having the radio on ?

Yes, you can. Each source has it's own independent volume level. Simply turn the volume down to 0 for the Radio, and the navigation volume remains at whatever level it is set at.

I've not tried turning the Columbus off when navigating, but I suspect this would also work. You do have to switch it on to start route guidance, though.

EDIT: I've now tried this, and you can't navigate with the Columbus switched off.

I don't think that the computer admonition "RTFM" is a man thing. It applies to most people, some of the time.

But thanks for the advice, which I have followed.

new toy...want to play...dont bother with manual...we have all been there !!! LOL

Why don't you put the map on, press HDD at the bottom of the screen to give you a display of what's playing and press pause. All on the map screen as I remember.
