Light Sensor ?

Featured Replies

Anyone know where this is ?

Currently the headlights seem to be on constantly as soon as I switch the lights to "Auto". Even during a period of mottled. bright sunlight.

Also - anyone know where the outside air temperature sensor(s) is ?

It's in the interior rearview mirror holder (the bulge between the mirror and the screen).

I can't swear to it, but I think it's in a low-pressure area behind the front bumper.

Mine are the same but then I look around and think, well Volvos have been doing this for years and there are a lot of other cars with their lights on so never mind.

I came home this aft into direct low sunlight and they turned off. Turned around out of the sun and they turned back on again.

Can't find a setting to adjust the sensitivity and I don't want to ask the garage because you know if they get their hands on them they'll never turn on again!!

cant you just put the light switch in the OFF position ?

Andrew - have you by chance got the daytime driving lights set to "on" in the MFD menus ? My auto lights only come on in low light levels - even to the extent that on a dullish day if I drive under a deep motorway bridge, they come on for a while !

As above, check the MFD settings. The demo i had, had them on all the time, until i turned them off ;)

Having got used to "daylight running lights" on my previous Volvo I would always choose to have them on for safety nowadays. However having chosen the setup in the MFD menu I still find the main lights choose to be on fully (daylight running option sets lights at 70% to optimise life of bulbs) when the sun may be shining which seems crazy.

There appears to be no sensitivity adjustment so one just has to live with it.

I've since discovered that with the lights set to Auto, there are actually several things which will cause the lights to come on, apart from the light level. I forget the full list, but one of them is if the wipers are on. Even if the wipers are on "Auto".

I've not had a chance to check to see if it this was what confused me yet. Everytime I've been out since I've been made that discovery it has been very dark and overcast - and lights were called for anyway.

Dumb question, and probably should RTFM, but where did you get the info on what would trigger the lights ?
