ok .. you were right...im sorry !

Featured Replies

in my quest to prove the vibration on my car is not a figment of my imagination I went to a dealer and drove a 170CR DSG today.

I take back all the comments about the diesel cars being a "bag-o-spanners"

-sorry !!

you can only tell its a diesel when its idling and then only just.

you can hear the engine under acceleration wheras my petrol is completely silent..however you cant tell its a diesel under acceleration, it simply sounds like any medium/large sized petrol car that i have driven before. its certainly quiter than my passat petrol under acceleration !

also DSG - why would anyone who can stretch to the extra cost even consider a manual ? The DSG , both in the petrol and diesel, is such a peach of a gearbox . if you are in any doubt go try one. the car i drove had the paddles like mine. I have to say that with heinsight i could have managed without them. dont get me wrong I like them and will use them but the DSG manages the downshifts so much better than the audi tiptronic system i had before (i used the paddles a lot to force a downshift for engine braking) but the DSG seems more intuitive at shifting down (and quicker)

so - once again sorry for the "bag o spanners" !!

if you are thinking of the PD engine....NOOOOOO . dont do it - the CR is way way way ahead. Unless of course you like the sound of spanners then buy the PD140 !!! LOL (whoops - sorry couldnt resist :))

Of course if you really wanted to get one that had a vibration like the PD you could get the other option:

a 1.8TSi on 17's :D

sorry, couldn't resist that one :o

In my case because I prefer the manual gearbox, granted the dsg is good but I just didn't want it.

Pleased to see you were honest about the 170 CR engine. It's the best 4cyl diesel I've driven and really suits the Superb. Plus even with only a few hundred miles on it I'm getting almost 41mpg average (checked on refuel)

Still think the ride is so terrible after driving the 170 CR (presumably on 18'' wheels)? I think it compares very well with similar wheel/tyre sized Merc E class and Audi A6 I've driven recently (I'd really rather have the Superb over either of those 2)

I hate to say this, Jonathan, but I think we were right about the 18" wheels too. :) :fence3d:

dont think so....

i think the crappy tyres i have on mine dont help

i cant see how the 18" wheels can be better. they were more crashy over the potholes than mine and about the same on the open road.

i tried 16" wheels yesterday - my passat is fitted with 205/55/16 and i needed some new tyres so i got teh tyre fitter blokes to put them on the superb for me to try. they felt exactly the same on a smooth road but much better around town as there was lots more rubber to absorb the bumps. I am still considering moving to 16" wheels with continental tyres or michelin primacy so as to get the best out of the car

Personally I wouldnt change the standard wheel sizes on a car as they are usually setup for those size wheels.

I have 16" on my superb and I am more than happy with the ride and the looks, but if it had come with 17" I would have left em alone!

I think the 170bhp diesel is the engine of choice in the superb, its the fastest & most economical of all the engines, maybe 3.6 aside, but i bet from 80-100 the diesel wouldnt be far behind the 3.6.

PS can the 170 be remapped?!!

PS can the 170 be remapped?!!

Yes, almost certainly. I'm waiting to see what superchips come up with (nothing available yet but I'll bet they are working hard on it) especially with the bluefin system (remap coding sent by email and downloaded to car management system via data port from handheld device) I would estimate a reliable 200bhp with 280 - 300 lbs/ft (I can't think in n/m!) torque should be achievable. I like this system as it is reversible by the user from the same device.
