Ashley Exhaust

Featured Replies

Was trying to put an Ashley Exhaust in my 130 Rapid yesterday..

But broke to bolts in the exhaust manifold :thumbdwn: So now the car must go to a mecanic

Oh Dear.

But it is not that bad. Why not take the manifold off and drill out the old stud, clean up the thread and fit a new stud? I did mine and it was easier than I thought it would be. Do you have a vice to hold the manifold?

TH

:)If there is enough of the broken stud left, remove the manifold and clamp the remainder of the stud in the vice and turn the manifold back and forth a bit a time until it unscrews...if you can apply some heat to it at the same time even better.

As Dave says, and, if you can get it in Denmark, soak the stud in PlusGas (tradename) for half an hour before starting with the vice (and heat) treatment).

No, unless you can get some of a good grade, as the regular stuff has f**k all strength. When i removed my broken studs, i just bolted the exhaust on with 10:9 bolts

whats 10:9?... 10CM M9?...

10:9 is he strength of the bolt, most mild steel bolts are 8:8. A lot of steering, suspension, big end cap, flywheel bolts, etc are 10:9 due to the greater strength required, it is pressed into the top of the bolt head

so how do some manifolds get away with using copper bolts?

It isnt copper, just looks like it
