ICE Advice

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am looking for some advice on some ICE questions, basically I have a 1999 Octavia 1 SLXi. I want to put an amp and some new speakers in there, but I just want to replace the speakers I have.

So, my question is, can I fit any speakers or do I need to have a certain make? Does the car have standard audio connectors or will I be looking at some re-wiring?

Also what are the speaker sizes, are all the speakers the same size?

Thanks for any help that is given

Jon

Fronts are 6" and the rears are 5 1/2" I think. Have a listen to sepakers and make your purchase. Assuming you already have speakers in place you can do a direct swap. You will need to make a piece of wire to connect the existing speaker adaptor or cut the adaptor off.

Ok cool, I didn't know if the speakers were odd sizes are anything :)

You do need to watch the depth of the speaker. The fronts are 6.5" diameter.

The Alpine SXE-1750S are a direct replacement for the front OEs, although you can get better speakers that can be made to fit

Yes depth can be an issue, just pop the front speaker cover off, remove the 4 screws and take the speaker out. Then you know what the adaptor looks like and the depth.

Ah cheers :) If I hadn't of bought an expensive head unit for my old car I might have kept the standard Skoda one as it sounds superb, but seeing as I changed the head unit thought I would change the speakers too
