parking sensor sensitivity

Featured Replies

I have noticed that when the final "beep" comes on and ht edisplay shows orange that the back of the car is only about 4 inches from a collision (ie brakes need ot go on immediately) However the front of the car is miles away - well about 12 inches. Anyone else noticed this and anyone know if the sensitivity can be adjusted. the front is too far away for it to be a 100% useful tool for parking. also the front side sensors are way too sensitive. I park near a wall on my drive and it thinks I am going to hit the wall when , in reality, i am a safe distance away.

it woudl be helpful if the front and rear sensors were calibrated to the same distance for the "orange" setting.

I have read the manual from cover to cover, even before I got the car!

In which case, RTFM (pages 116 and 117, I think) again.

Could have resisted it. :)

Front & Rear Parking Sensors

Range of sensors

The distance warning begins at a distance of about 120 cm from the obstacle in

front of the vehicle (fig. 126) and about 160 cm from the obstacle behind the vehicle (fig. 124).

The interval between the warning signals becomes shorter as the clearance is reduced.

A continuous tone sounds from a clearance of just 30 cm (B) - danger

area. You should not reverse any further after this signal sounds! If the vehicle

is equipped with a factory-fitted towing device*, the border of the danger area

starts - continuous tone - 5cm further behind the vehicle. The vehicle can be

extended through an installed detachable towing device.

On vehicles equipped with a factory-fitted radio* or navigation*, the distance to the

obstruction is shown graphically on the display. On vehicles with a factory-fitted

towing device, the rear sensors are deactivated when towing a trailer. The driver is

also informed of the radio* or the navigation* by a graphic display (vehicle towing

a trailer) on the display. The radio* or navigation*, which is factory-fitted, can be set

so that the play function volume decreases when activating the parking aid, see

Owner's Manual radio* or navigation*. This improves the audibility of the parking aid.

IOW, confirms the differing distances front/rear is designed in (it assumes that you can judge the front of the vehicle more accurately than the rear, which is true for the majority).

No way shown or suggested to alter/calibrate and no option on the MaxiDot either.

The only additional difference is that the rear sensors can accommodate the towing device, but you already knew that. :)

thanks

however it does say a continuous tone sounds at 30cm from the object. In my experience this is only true of the front sensors. The rear sensor continous tone on my car seems to start at about 15cm.

I willdo some accurate testing and measuring later today and then mention it to the dealer when it goes in for futher "gremlin extermination" next week !!

How did you get on at the dealer ?  Are there any options to change the sensitivity of the rear (and front) parking sensors  I would like a continuos tome from about 10 cm, rather than the 60 cm I seems to have a present.

Yes, I've found this to be the case on mine. In my view, Skoda has set the front sensors to go into continuous too soon. When parking in tight underground car parks (such as my work place) it renders them somewhat redundant. I frequently just have to keep going forward, while the tone is on, and trust to my own judgement rather than the sensors'. It's a different situation for the rear, where I drive and act as the sensors command.

I never investigated further, other than asking here on the forum a couple of years back.

On the FL model, the sensors are extremely sensitive, more so than on pre FL. Always find myself having to judge the last few feet myself as the tone is continuos too early. Also the side areas are very sensitive and Presumably this is because of the addition of 'bay parking' with the sensors have extra functionality?
