Need Advice.

Featured Replies

Im new to Skodas, and im looking for some info. im taking an octavia vrs desiel out on a test drive next week with a view to buying it. Having no previous experiance with Skodas i was wondering if you guys/girls would give me some help into what to look out for.

Thanks for any advice and sorry if its in the wrong thread.

There are two diesel vRS variants. The PD which has been around for a few years and the newer CR (Common Rail) which has been around since the middle of last year. They both produce 168bhp and 256lbs torque.

Both are very good engines but are different in their power delivery. The torque in the PD comes in very hard very early whereas on the CR it is more progressive, and similar to the TFSI petrol engine.

It's probably worth driving both to see which you prefer although your budget may ultimately dictate this.

I'm on my second vRS (my first being the TFSI) and I would recommend one to anyone - there's not really anything to match it for under £20k if you're wanting a performance hatch with the practicality of a bigger car.

EDIT: you do have to put up with the odd rattle or two though :)

Speed cameras:rolleyes:

But seriously noise / drone from the rear tyres could be the rear alignment not correct, assuming it's a Mk2 Octy you are looking at.

Had mine for 2 months now and love it. Mine's a PD rather than CR, but no complaints about the "older" engine. People are right, there is the odd squeak and rattle (my jumbo box seems to be particularly susceptible) but apart from that it's pretty bloomin' good!

Oh, and if you have the 18" wheels on it then it can be a little noisy and choppy in the cabin. I can't comment on the ride with the 17" wheels, but the 18s certainly look better IMHO ;) I was certainly willing to make the compromise.

Paint can be a little on the thin side, so look for any wear around door edges and boot lips (presuming you are buying used) otherwise just take your time, find a good one, and pay as little as possible for it - they're not making good money at the moment so as a buyer you are in command.

Happy shopping!

PS - also presuming it's an Octy II you're looking at - don't think there was a diesel vRS in the Octy I range...?
