stiff bonnet release

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I have a 2005 1.9 PD estate

The bonnet catch release handle seems to be very stiff to operate to me. Is this a reported problem and where will it need greasing?

thx

Tom

Hi Tom, i've had similar problems with both my mk3 golf and mk1 octy, Ive had a cable stretch which i had to replace and also just had the release catch mechanism just jammed up. If you able to get it open get someone to pull it and see if it moves ok then probably just the release mechanism gunked up, if no movement probably the cable. If its just junked up i removed the whole release mechanism, soaked it in petrol, give it a bit of a brush clean and oiled it and put it back on and it worked ok. There loads of threads on here with similar problems so im sure there will be more on to give you advice. If you don't want to get your hands dirty you can just replace the mechanism but don't know the part code or cost but as i say im sure someone on here will be able to give those to you..

cheers leon

thx mate

It's not actually siezed up at this time. (I am a bit surprised that it seems so dodgy though, when everything else on the car is so good). I guess a soon as the weather improves I will get my hands dirty and loosen everything up with a bit 'o grease.

I will have a look for other threads, too

thx again

Or a good squirt of WD40 over everything which looks as though it might move? (Worked a treat with my electric razor yesterday....)
