Weird computer problem

Featured Replies

Hello,

Here's hoping someone has experienced similar problems. First, the details:

Octavia II

2.0 TDI elegance

DSG 6-speed

Bought in October '08

Miles: 3000 (5,500km)

The problem: when I tried to start it up, the engine came on but the gear indicator at the bottom of the display simply flashed. I couldn't put the car into drive and after killing the engine I wasn't able to pull the key out of the ignition. All electrical components functioned properly (radio, windows, etc.). After a few restarts the gearbox unblocked itself and the flashing went away but now the engine light is on.

Any ideas? Seems like a computer problem, I'm going to the dealer tomorrow but curious as to what anyone here might have to say.

Thanks in advance.

i dont want to scare you or something but i have done a lot of online research on the DSG and found out that many had similar problems...(VW and Audi mainly)........this problem comes from the mechatronic....which is the weak point of the DSG...if this goes bad you need to change it...noone will try to service it.... new unit will have to be ordered and replace the old one...it costs a fortune...i guess you are under the warranty period so no worries...

take the car to the dealer first think tomorrow morning....

i am just suprised you are faced with such issue with only 5k on the clock...

That doesn't worry me, it rather puts me into a desperate panic. But I am under warranty, so as long as I get a courtesy car then no worries. Just a pain in the backside. As long as they take care of me properly I'll be satisfied, the car's been a dream to drive so far. Oh well, I am going in tomorrow morning so I'll post an update when I get something official...

I had a similar problem on mine, but at the end of a journey..called out skoda assist, and when they turned up, it was fine :o..booked it in to the dealers, and they found no faults on their computer..been fine since........apparently, it happens every now and then on DSG boxes ???, but didn't have a problem with the engine light..
