Hot starting problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

This is my first post on the forum, so hello to everyone. I have used the site for help recently, particularly for headlamp bulb changing (a pain!) and for the location of the pollen filter on the Octy II. Excellent help on both counts.

I have an Octavia II 1.9 TDI PD which has a slight problem when starting with a warmed up engine. When cold it starts instantly every time, all weathers, but when warmed up if it needs to be restarted it turns over for a full four or five seconds before firing. This might not sound much but can be embarassing if you stall in a traffic queue for example. Is this just a characteristic of this engine or does it indicate something wrong? I'm non-technical where cars are concerned but would welcome any feedback.

Hope this is the right place for this post, by the way.

Cheers

Hi

Mine had the self same problem.

Had a new starter motor under warranty, problem sorted.

Thanks, that's cheered me up no end. I'll ring the Skoda garage and see if they'll look at it under the Skoda Used Warranty which is still in force.

Sorry, just telling you my experience of the same situation

Yes, I know, and thanks for taking the trouble to warn me of the possible cause.

I have since spoken to the Skoda garage and the guy there seemed to think the engine temperature sensor was a likely suspect. I have arranged for them to fix it, whatever the cause, under warranty. Thanks again.

I've replaced my coolant temp sensor and still have the same problem, so it looks like it maybe my starter motor is also at fault.
