Fuel mileage computer problem

Featured Replies

Hi I have an Octavia 1.9tdi (90) and have a problem of the fuel consumption reading aprrox 40% less (l/100 kms) than the car actually uses I wonder if anyone can help with any input on this thanks vu2gte btw I am located in India.

That's more than usually so (I'd expect more like 10%), but the VAG trip computer's "trip mpg" mode is notoriously optomistic. How does the "available range" mode compare with your expected range between fill ups?

Hi thanks for replying, the kms left to travel also show an over optimistic reading of 1200-1300 when I fill the tank whereas what I normally get is approximately 600 till the reserve light comes on. I have a launch scanner which is supposed to do what the official scanner does but cannot find any adaptation for this. I also have the Elsawin manuals but have not spotted anything in there either vu2gte

There's something wrong there, and I can't help but get the feeling that, since your actual consumption is sensible, there's a programming error in the trip computer firmware, that doesn't affect anything else.

If the trip computer program resides on an EEPROM chip, your dealer might be able to reflash it for you but if it's consistent, I'd live with it.

Hi ken thanks again for your help the dealers here are not great one suggested i would have to change the inj. pump.

You can adjust the mpg indication with VAGCOM. So no eprom programming required. I just have done it on my O2 and now the consumption meter has a difference of 2% with the calculated value.

Just look for somebody in you're neigbourhood with vag com or vcds and you can correct the problem.

I did not know that. For the Op, if you have a laptop, you might be able to do this yourself with a suitable cable and VAGCOM (now VCDS).

I did a scan today and found the instrument coding as 18102 the fifth figure I thought was supposed to be a 0 if the engine is a tdi is that correct? Anybody can throw some light on this please? Would that last 2 make a difference in the fuel consumption display?
