Wheels/suspension questions - warning, n00b alert!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just joined as I've just got an 03 Superb TDI 100 Classic and loving it.

I want to modify it slightly with a wheels/sus upgrade, but as I haven't done this on a car before I have a few questions.

Excuse the n00bness - I'd ideally like to go down baker21's route as his car looks the business. So would be looking at KW1's with 19" wheels.

- as it's quite a lot to fork out for at the same time, can I just put the 19s on and ride like that for a while until I get the KW1s? Or KW1s first then 19s? Will this affect the car in any way?

- spacers: are these needed and what do I need to get here if I do need them? Are they just for style or function purposes?

- is there anything I can fit myself (not too confident on doing the sus)?

- lastly, the car is 100 bhp which is fine, but as I tend to want the best things for it, should I get a 130bhp remap? prob not needed, but thought I'd ask.

Many thanks in advance - really just looking for advice on wheel/sus setup as I want it done properly and not something that will wreck the car/whels/sus if not done correctly.

Cheers!

:D

It won't effect it but it will look silly with the stilt look.

To try and help you out mate I would suggest the following:

- Lower the car first as fitting larger wheels will make the Superb look like it's on stilts;

- You don't have to spend a fortune on suspension if you don't want too, there are some good kits around a lot cheaper than KW if money is a problem;

- You also don't have to spend a fortune on wheels as there are plenty of wheels around in places such as Edition38 providing you know what offset and wheel width you need;

- Spacers help to compensate for the offset and wheel widths depending on what you go for so you don't necessarily need them;

As for engine remapping I am afraid I know little about this............:(

Hi Baker21! thanks for the response mate.

Sounds sensible regarding the suspension - can you recommend any other sets then that are cheaper than, but as suitable as the KW V1s?

Cheers

Not sure if Bluefin do a map for the 100 but it would be worth giving Kate a call at JKM to find out

and this what a standard classic looks like on 17" wheels

Sure can mate, there was another user on here running an Elegance Superb with V-Maxx Coilovers, I managed to get a spin in his motor and the ride felt pretty good to me...........:thumbup:

More information can be found here:

(I think you will find the kit can be sourced cheaper on eBay..........:D)

...or Weitec's. They're a direct comparison actually, same as the KW V1 but mild steel instead of stainless.

how much of a job is it to fit the kit?

Weitec is a KW Brand and is therefore a little cheaper but not as cheap as V-Maxx..............:D

Depends where you go mate but I managed to get my kit fitted for £25 a corner............:D
