Cutting Agents?

Featured Replies

I've just given my car it's first clay in the hope of making the harsh scratches on the back look better. Sadly, they look even worse now as the rest of the car is sparkling.

So, I'm wondering what product to use in an attempt at making them look better. They're on the top of the rear bumper, fairly deep but not down to the primer.

I've tried my Autoglym polish on it as well, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Please help!

How deep are the scratches? Have you tried Autoglym Paint Renovator or Megs Scratch X?

Deep enough for T-Cut to do nothing at all! I haven't bought anything else to try as I haven't really got the money to experiment with different products :(

I've heard good things about Scratch X.

If they are deep scratches you won't get much of a result by doing anything with hand, you will get much better results from a machine polisher . . . but don't attempt this if you have no experience, you will do more damage than good, you can burn through to bare metal in under 20 seconds if you don't know what you are doing with one,

Have you been on DW?

Claying will make the scratches more apparent I am afraid as it will get the grime out of the scratch itself so if you have used AG SRP with no benefit the next thing to do would be try Megs Scratch X by hand.........:D

If this doesn't work then it sounds like a machine correction job or worst case some wet sanding............:o

If you rub your nail accross the scratch can you feel it?

You can feel it, but only slightly. Of the multiple scratches across the back, maybe one or two can be felt with a nail. From the sounds of it, I'll have to get some of the ScratchX, reviews elsewhere seem to be positive. Other than that, I'll think I cry.

I have found T-cut scratch removing paste good on mine, but only on lighter marks. Anything that your fingernail catches on is usually beyond repair (for me anyway)
