Saab 93 Linear 1.8T auto

Featured Replies

I have just been short listed for a job which comes with a company car. According to the job spec the benchmark car is a Saab 93 Linear 1.8T automatic saloon.

Any one have any experience of these? I have to admit I have never even been inside a Saab.

I drove a Saab 9-3 last year, IIRC it was the 1.8T, it felt sluggish compared to the Octy, in terms of power and handling, and the interior and instrumentation was rather plasticky and old-fashioned. That said, it's a nice looking car, and that was an 01 model, maybe there's been a facelift / other improvements.

They are based on the current Vectra but don't look it , and are quite nicely put together. The interior has a traditional saab look and feel to it which some like and others hate.

Don't let the 1.8T fool you into thinking its a sporty car though as it isn't (they are only a low pressure turbo)

If you do get the job you can always ask if a car allowance is an option instead of the company car

Boss's car is a 9-3 Aero 2.0T (is not a 1.8... :D) - nice enough, quite palacial, and subtle speed, but does NOT feel quick, compared to the 1.8T VAG engine, even compared to my chipped TDI. If its a company car, its OK, if private I'd stick with the vRS.

A car allowance is offered but the amount would only cover finance payments for a

It would seem that they will also allow you to pay for upgrades to the Saab or choose from the Vauxhall range.

Monaro? :D
