cd changer install help needed

Featured Replies

Hi people, haven't been on here in ages since I sold my Superb last year, I had an Octavia before that. My dad now has the Octavia and still going strong, however, the old cd changer went faulty due to the old back window wash pouring water all over it. Skoda delaer cut the connector off to try and exclude the plug but it didn't work as the changer was fried. Years later i have got a changer from ebay and am trying to wire it in but the colour coding of the loom (which now has no plug and is just bare wire) and the changer loom are different. I have wired it up based on a diagram from a google search but it only detects cd1 and doesn't actually play. Does anybody have any diagrams or info so I can get my 75 year old dad wired for sound!! Thanks in advance,

Sam

Octy1 or Octy2? Head Unit? Changer model no?

Sorry about the few details, it's an Octy 1 with the Symphony head. It had a changer in originally but thanks to Skoda cutting the plugs off I can't just plug the replacement straight in, I have had to take the plug off the changer and am splicing the cabling back together (not ideal I know). Is there anything in either of the plugs, for instance, an internal link between pins, that I am missing?

Thanks

Two things worth considering first.

You may have to consider that you may have wired it up correctly but your HU may be damaged as well. Water is not a great conductor of electricity but it will conduct it and will fry delicate electronics nicely. Maybe a voltage was shorted along a data line, enough to damage the CDC circuits in the HU, but not fry it completely, that sort of thing.

or

The cabling may have been damaged or corroded at the changer end so your not getting the proper connection to the changer.

Just somethings worth considering.

Not familiar with the symphony myself, but the following may help..

a bit generic, but this might help if you can ID which one it is.

The figures on tfis page show the interfase - and fly - lead cable of the 22RC047

(Skoda Symphony is listed as one of the ones that can make use of these diagrams)

or possibly this

(Wiring Diagram for the Symphony Head to CDC Emulator, so in theory should be the same wiring to the changer itself)

VAG CD Changer Simulator (CDC Emulator) and Remote Control for Archos Jukebox

(Main page with connectors, etc on)

simulator vag cd changer emulator volkswagen gamma beta aux in IPOD MP3

(Has lots of pin configurations, CD changer wiring at the bottom)

Personally tho I would consider either getting a new wiring harness and mount the changer in the glove box or under the seat, or getting a mp3 adapter, put all your dads tracks on it, and hide it away in the glove box. It still acts like a CDC, but without the hassle of changing discs. (If there is one to support the symphony that is, I would be surprised if there wasnt)

The Dension Gateway 100 & 300 support the symphony.

Looks like the XCarlink and Connects2 support the symphony as well.

Hope this helps

Fantastic help, thank you. I will study the links and see how we go. I hope it hasn't fried the symphony, every other aspect of it seems to work fine though. Thanks again for the info.

np, hope it helps get you going ;)
