CR Engine oil

Featured Replies

Guys,

Just wanna check but can i use the same top up oil with a CR TDI as i did with my old PD engine? I've got a litre of Shell Helix oil that i got for my previous car, is that fine to use?

Thanks

..............another example of 'why do car manufacturers bother with handbooks.?

In your glovebox you may find a handy plastic wallet. Inside are a number of booklets, which are all about your car, among them being how to operate it and how to deal with minor service issues, like topping up the oil. Among these are exacting details on the oil specifications. Even more fortunately, oil manufacturers are equally helpful in putting the specifications on the packs of their products.

I should have put in my previous post that I did check my users manual but i couldn't be sure that it was actually talking about the CR engine as it is woefully out of date (i have an LE and it still shows the old dash, stream audio and older climate control ) and i think may even be the same one that came with my previous PD car. So i thought i would be better checking first.

I have Shell Helix Ultra Extra (i think - double check when i get home) which is VW 507 00 which was fine for the old car so if the new engine uses the same spec then great.

Thanks, but £44 for five litres of Comma Prolife 5w-30 VAG doesn't strike me as much of a bargain...:thumbdwn:

Halfords is looking for about £50 for 5L of their own brand oil when I was in there last weekend. I ended up getting Mobil oil as it was the only one that expressly said on the bottle that it met the VW 506 01 spec the manual said I needed for a 1.9 TDi PD with no DPF, so it seems pretty reasonable to me, though I'm guessing if you bought 20L you'd do a lot better on cost per litre...
