tyre issue??

Featured Replies

hi folks

bought a 06 oct II 1.6 fsi ambient a month ago with 17,000 on the clock

but have had a few issues with a load droning noise took it back told me it was wheel bearing so had it in to change both, turns out that the noise was coming from the back to me told them this but after picking it up the noise was still there

so back i went this time took out the head mechanic/ technician to road test it i had not gone 3oo yards and he said thats road noise possible tyres as when he fitted the bearings he had felt the tyers and thought the wear on them was uneven!!! so they wanted me to rearrange to book it in again but this would be in a weeks time !!! not best pleased i rebooked for a week later as this was the soonest they could see me

on the way home took it to f1 tyres were i asked the guy to road test he thought the noise was bearings had the car on the ramp tested for play and sticking but all fine on checking the tyers all the inside edges were stepped each individual tread was at a different hight to each other some raised others lower

the tyers were dunlop sport and very little wear he had not seen that on a dunlop for at least 8 years

played holly hell with the dealer who had fitted two new bearings for nothing and had not thought to check the tyers

i bought four new tyers and made them repayed the cost just short of 400 quid

which after some agro they did

the tyers have now been sent off to dunlop for a examination and am currently waiting the outcome

so have any of you guys had this on your octi II?????

i also run a 1.9 tdi and have not seen this on that??

just wondering if i will have problems with the suspension or springs??

cheers guys

Sorry to hear of your events, but it is common to the Mk2. A full 4 wheel geometry check would be the best riute forward I feel as Skoda revised the camber angle on the rear. The old settings caused the wear on the rear tyres resulting in the droning noise you experience. Also Dunlops seem to be unsuited to the car IMO. The ones on mine wore like yours with some parts of the tyre almost slick and then just a few inches further around the tread it was normal, so the tyre was egg shaped in a way.

So get the 4 wheel geometry done before your new tyres suffer the same fate.

Common problem, my VRS TDI had the rear Dunlops changed due to tyre noise. Got the rear geometry adjusted by the dealer and now its fine.
