Front end bounce......

Featured Replies

My VRs should be back from the bodyshop on Friday! :) However on the drive upto the bodyshop my dad was following me up there and he said the front end of the car was bouncing badly up the backroad! Its on a Bilstein Street Line kit - bought it 2nd hand still looked like brand new and clean. shocks are good and springs seemed fine. Just wondered if anyone else had problems like this??

If anyone has any suggestions? Yes I did shorten the bumpstops! maybe time to go for AP's?? As a sorry present to the car!

The car will bob about a lot more on bumpy roads than if it's standard because the harder suspension won't smooth it out as much. I can't see changing it to different uprated suspension will make much difference unless they're softer.

Schern, how ru getting on with the weitecs now chap?

Getting on fine with them, had a check the other day and like you suggested the coils sit very close, so chances are it's them touching that's making the clonking noise I get over speed bumps etc. I've still got a random noise from somewhere, like a very light tapping which I don't think can be down to the coils touching, but I half wonder if it maybe something moving around in the door. Overall though I'm really pleased with them. They ride really well!

I've got a Bilstein catalogue here and as far as I'm aware, Bilstein don't currently sell a Fabia vRS Streetline kit. There is a 9N Polo kit, but it's not listed fro the 1.9TDI and if the spring or damping rates are different then you could have all sorts of fun and games in the handling area.

I've spoken to Bilstein's importer - Euro Car Parts - they said that the Streetline kit was listed for the VRS for 2 years from mid 2004-2006 and then discontinued (these were bought on ebay off a Briskoda member). It was designed for the Ibiza 1.9TDi, Polo 9n 1.9TDi & Fabia 1.9TDi. they are the correct poundage, but it doesnt handle the bumps anything like the cheapo coilovers i've got on the 6n Polo!

If the spring rates are correct then it sounds like the dampers are shot.

If i bounce on the corner it stops moving after about 1 - 1.5 bounces, but it makes the other front spring/shock compress too - like its bouncing in simpathy to the other side. If you pushing along a twisty back road - like I was on the way upto the bodyshop - and to hit a bumps mid corner it upsets the whole balance of the car and the front end bounces badly! :(

im no expert, but i have jus had a set of use coilover fitt this week. And im pretty sure thats not how it should feel.

I've never had a car that the suspension has decided to go soft. I've replaced the springs & shocks on everycar i've owned to uprated ones. And they they have still been perfect right upto the time I sell the car on. One Polo 6n I had was fitted with Weitec fully adjustable coilovers and 6 years later when the car was written off the car was still on my original Weitecs!.

I guess you get what you pay for - Bisteins on the Fabia £110 delivered - Weitecs on the Polo £684!

I suspect there is some truth in that - even if Weitec are an infamous bunch of price-fixers.

there is a way around that - especially when one of your mates works for another retailer in the Uk who import them! ;)
