Registered for Sky + HD...

anything i should be aware about really is what am wanting to know

As i seem to remember hearing that some of the early boxes had 'issues' with freezing up etc??

if so should i be able to request a specific box when the time comes and they give me an installation date?

Also am aware that they will put in a 2nd feed( for recording purposes) but will they put in a new line for viewing, as i currently only have standard box which must be about 4 years old now. the reason why i ask is that iam about to have my samsung full hd lcd wall mounted and so would require a longer viewing cable to enable this

be grateful for any advice from people whom have gone the HD way :D

update:

i got told over phone last night, when i requested the HD service that it would probably be about 2 weeks before i get an email to say i can confrim and finalise my order... and today (just this minute) i receive the email to say my box is ready, and i can proceed to pay and confirm an installation date

so maybe the demand in my area aint that great at the moment

I was in a pretty similar position to yourself, older standard box etc.

We have had ours a few months now, a 2nd line was required (apparently not if you already have Sky +).

In terms of performance (bit like a car this !!) no issues, no freezing etc, but it does not like the bad weather and struggles (briefly) to find a signal.

The "recordability" is great, however, some of the HD channels are a complete waste of time. We have a decent 1080p TV and even so; things like Sci-Fi and FX HD are not really any better than SD. However, make up your own mind.

Also, the accepted advice of watching the HD channel for improved quality of SD programmes (e.g. C4 & Sky 1) makes little difference in my opinion.

its not that simple really, its not that some HD channels are pap its down to the individual program, once you get the new EPG you can tell it to show you which programs are in HD and which aren't. its amazing how many programs aren't in HD despite it being an HD channel.

things like the series of Dexter on FXHD was in HD and looked awesome.

If you can, ask for a Samsung box.

When i went for Sky+HD i did a lot of reading, and the samsung boxes were the most highly recommended.

My Samsung is certainly miles better than the sh##e Amstrad Sky+ box i had.

you can't ask for different boxes, the guys installing them don't even know what they are without chekcing once its out of the box. its just pot luck what you get.

you can't ask for different boxes

I managed it

That said, i can be a whinging old tw#t, so people will do anything to shut me up :D

you must have had a good engineer or something then you lucky sod :D

Thanks for the replies and advice... i shall update after the installation then, think i'll be a bit cheeky anyhow and ask the guy to extend the cable already installed if indeed they dont actually change this, as i'm going to be fixing the samsung 46" lcd to the wall... and knocking out fireplace (well actually creating enough space within the chimney and blanking off is what i meant)to replace with led lit glass shelves to house all the av type stuff underneath :)

I better go and pay my due's then eh
