Anyone removed the cat?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has removed the cat on their felly?

Considering doing this before the cat totally gives up the ghost and then I can re-attach for the MOT and just use a straight through section of pipe the rest of the time.

Did you have a pipe made up for it or is it possible to get an 'off the shelf' part to fit?

Thanks

Phil

Just had a thought. you would need to make a hole for the lambda/oxygen sensor

Yes you are right... I would!

Thanks for the info. Will have a look and if the Lambda prob is too stuck in there I won't attempt it! lol

On a side note... does anyone know a way to test the lambda probe? Can it be done through vag-com?

Thanks

A few points :

The Lamda sensor screws into a boss that is welded into the down pipe.

The carb vesrion of the Favorit had a non Lambda type pipe, pre 1993, but the exhaust is configured diferently for cat and non cat Favorits.

It would probably ony work on the 1.3 litre engine.

"Cataclean" does wonders for your hydrocarbon emissions.

And a question ; is it legal to pass your MOT and then remove any parts that are essential for emissions control ?

regards

If you remove the cat on your car you will hear a deeper exhaust note and the car will rev more freely. I did this on my Favorit and the results were definatley worth it. The engine runs alot better without it.

Not sure how to strip its innards tho

its been reworked since.

i didnt like the funny sound from the empty cat shell, so i cut half the cat away, along the length. then welded a pipe between the inpit and the out put of the cat. i then gut the other half of the cat shell away.

this way i used half the cat shell as a jig to make sure everything stayed et the right angle etc...
