Rear Centre Console.

Featured Replies

I need to remove the rear centre consul to adjust the handrake cable.

According to the Haynes book of fables it states "Remove rear ashtray to gain access to two screws". But how on earth do you remove the ashtray surround to get at the screws, also how does one get the plastic cover off the handbrake, which is neccessary to remove the console.

I seem to remember (although a long while back) that you just pull the ashtray up.

I vaguely remember thumbs on the insides of the insert and fingers outside console and pinching whilst sliding my thumbs up and backwards. I think it then just pops out.

I didn't remove the handbrake cover as i was fitting an armrest, but i remember the console tilting forward with out to much difficulty - you may not need to remove.

The ashtray should just pull straight up but may be tight.

To remove the plastic handbrake cover there is a small slot underneath which you can insert a small screwdriver in and lever outwards and pull off the cover. But you don't need to remove it to get the console off.

leave a small child alone in the car for two minutes, I'm sure that will do it.

Looking at my car you just pull the ashtray upwards and then the surround wants to lift out but there are two clip like bits which catch on the piece of plastic at the back of the armrest thing. I didn't have a knife or anything handy but it looks like if you remove the bit of plastic the surround should lift out.
