High mileage???

Featured Replies

Returning to the vRS and I have been offered an 04 estate at a good price whereby I will be getting a few hundred quid back on my current car as well.

The potential sticking point is that it has 119,000 miles on the clock.

Deal or no deal?????

:confused::confused::confused:

Apart from having the timing belt AND waterpump done often enough, and the usual VAG made-of-cheese suspension issues, the Mk1 vRS ought to be fine with that kind of mileage I think. What kind of service history (and perhaps more importantly receipts) does it have?

Mileage won't bother me if it's a good looked after car with service history etc. Most high milers will be better than the low milers and cheeper 

Independent garage, trading standards approved, state that it has FSH by Skoda, 1 owner and cambelt changed in September 07 at 81,000 miles.

It's due another cambelt change then. Get another £300-£400 knocked off for that. Or get the garage to do the work.

Is it advertised anywhere?

I'm not sure the cambelt change interval hadn't dropped to 60k by September '07, but it's one of those things where it would probably have been 80k or four years when the car rolled out of the factory, so provided nothing went wrong with it, it should be OK up until 140k or 160k if you're bold. It's definitely worth seeing if the waterpump was done, but (another 'but' :o ) I think the improved part was in use by then, so again it's probably less of an issue provided the service intervals in the original service booklet have been observed.

As for the suspension, a test-drive will tell you all you need to know for that!!!

After 40k? Worth a try but not essential - 60k isn't it now?

My hatch is now on 116k miles and looks and runs like cars with half the mileage. The power is also still more than book figures with no modifications.

As the others have said as long as the cambelt and waterpump isn't due and it has a good service history with receipts for any work done it should be a good buy.

Sorry, my mistake. It is 60k so good for another 20k or so. Still worth trying for though :)
